About this Role:
The Wholesale Accounting team oversees some of Windstream’s largest cash costs. The Accountant I is a vital role that overseas monthly variance analysis and reconciliation of wholesale expenses including monthly recurring costs, contract credits, long distance usage, and telephone pole expense and plays a critical role in delivering accurate reporting and collaborating regularly with the Access team, Financial Planning team, and various other organizations within Windstream.
What You’ll Do:
- Responsible for the preparation of General Ledger entries and reconciliations as required for a timely month-end close.
- Responsible for the detailed review and analysis, preparation, and presentation of balance sheet and income statement results.
- Preparation and analysis of monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including resolution of outstanding items.
- Assist in coordination of the internal and external audit process.
- Assist in the documentation and monitoring of internal controls.
- Work closely with Access and Financial Planning to ensure disputes, contract credits, and other expenses are accurately and fairly presented.
- Other responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Confirm accounting records are maintained in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), company policies and legal agreements / contracts.
- Assist on special projects as they come up.
- Overtime at various points throughout the month should be expected.
Do You Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance.
- Must be proficient with MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint) and experience in JD Edwards and Strategy is desirable, but not required.
- The successful candidate will be inquisitive, take initiative, and have a solid understanding of accounting principles and internal controls.

Minimum Requirements:
- College degree in Accounting and/or Finance and 1 – 2 years professional level experience; or 5+ years professional level related experience; or equivalent combination of education and professional level related experience.
