Summary/Purpose
Assist the department Supervisor in ensuring safety, quality and productivity of the area.  This includes but is not limited to solving problems, scheduling personnel, resolving quality issues, conducting daily layered audits, performance appraisals, conflict resolution, training operators and utility personnel, and tracking KPI’s (Bekido, Chokko, etc.) to continually improve the overall performance of the department.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities: 
•    Ensure a safe working environment.
•    Must motivate and encourage associates to meet or exceed plant standards.
•    Manage and resolve conflict within the work area when necessary.
•    Maintain professional work environment.  Establish fair and consistent treatment standard for all associates to avoid favorites and establish trust and authority.
•    Make sure all associates are properly trained and have the tools necessary to complete their job.
•    Manage associates time and attendance.
•    Complete performance appraisals on associates timely and in a consistent manner, providing constructive improvement comments to motivate and encourage performance improvements.
•    Focus on continuous improvement related to Safety, Quality and Production.
•    Work with other Group leaders to promote cooperation, communication and smooth work flow.
•    Assist supervision with quality issues by containing suspect product and providing necessary quality feedback to value stream associates.
•    Must maintain and continuously develop a 5S system that addresses safety, housekeeping, organization, quality and continuous improvement.
•    Assist department Chief Leader in resolving disciplinary issues.
•    Conduct daily layered audits, standard work audits and ahead or behind reviews while ensuring productivity.
•    Assist with component problems and component scheduling when possible.
•    Monitor and track the productivity of associates and equipment in the work area.  This may require developing the tools necessary to track productivity. (Bekido, Chokko and Yarijimai)
•    Maintain a good working knowledge of plant policies and plant procedures.
•    Learn, support and implement standard work practices and other Lean/JPS methods and philosophies.
•    Be prepared to assist in emergency response situations by responding to emergency alarms and emergency health situations.
•    Identify both internal and external customers, understand the needs and expectations of these customers and understand how job performance affects these customers. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for supervising a shift in accordance with policies and procedures.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
•    Must have good leadership skills to be able to manage and direct others.
•    Must be able to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondences and memos.
•    Ability to work with minimal supervision.
•    Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
•    Must have organizational and documentation skills.
•    Must be able to multi-task to perform different tasks effectively and efficiently.
•    Basic computer skills needed to keep records, compile and manage data as well as communicate with others.

Education and Experience: 
AS degree required, BS degree preferred with 3-5 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting preferred.

•    This position has an exposure to moderate noise levels and moving mechanical parts.
•    Work around chemicals is required.
