Summary/Purpose

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide supervision to Manufacturing Engineers and is responsible for assigning priorities of projects and support engineering services to assigned manufacturing areas.  This position may also help Maintenance with machine troubleshooting; support manufacturing with quality/productivity & cost improvements; assist with new capital project purchases and budget; develops engineering reports; and other duties as assigned.  First Responder.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Prioritize daily manufacturing support aimed at reducing downtime, reducing costs, quality improvements and productivity gains.
  • Assist PE with new project startup including attendance at APQP meetings, creating CPC documentation, new equipment procurement, installation, grooming and approval.
  • Responsible for reviewing and approval of Engineering documents per Quality Standards for accuracy.
  • Assist with quotations of new products.
  • Responsible for tracking ECI document changes within their group of assigned manufacturing product responsibilities.
  • Must complete First Responder Training (including First Aid, CPR and Blood-borne Pathogens).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position is responsible for supervising a department of employees in accordance withpolicies and procedures.

  • Organizes daily activity of area – set priority.
  • Reviews engineering member advancement, targets and goals for ‘PDR’.
  • Prepares and follows-up M.E. training schedules.
  • Coordinates vacation and shutdown schedules of direct reports.
  • Prepares major equipment repair schedules and shutdown jobs.
  • Follows-up progress of new projects, contact with vendors.
  • Coordinates activity prior to IATF16949 and ISO14001 audits.
  • Coordinate and follows-up new capital projects in conjunction with PE.
  • Coordinates new equipment layout for approval.
  • Reviews and approves spare part and tools.
  • Reviews budget for ME department, monthly.
  • Reviews and approves purchase requests for ME Department.
  • Reviews new equipment grooming documents to meet production and quality requirements.
  • Attends monthly budget, operational and QA meetings as required.
  • Follows-up progress on operational plan activities and provides monthly report for operational plan follow up.
  • Automated equipment troubleshooting experience.
  • PLC/HMI programming and troubleshooting experience is required.
  • Vision/DMC vision experience is a plus.
  • DAQ experience is a plus.
  • CNC programming and troubleshooting is a plus.
  • Knowledge of fixture design, tooling design, and gage design.
  • Must be familiar with IATF16949 and ISO14001 requirements for producing Process Sheets, Control Plans and PFMEA documentation.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and lubrication systems.
  • Close tolerance measurement and GD&T knowledge required.
  • Positive attitude & ability to prioritize and deal with multiple assignments and deal with stressful situations.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Performs housekeeping duties as required.
  • Cutting tool experience is a plus.
  • Experience with CBN grinding is a plus.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to work overtime is an essential function of the position.

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering-related discipline with a minimum 5 years of experience in job related field.
  • Previous supervisory experience or project management experience preferred.

  • The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to manufacturing areas which require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, and safety shoes/boots
  • Travel by automobile and plane required approximately 10-20% of time.
