Job Summary: 

ALoss Prevention Agent will play a key role in preventing financial loss caused by theft and fraud, and supporting overall store safety and security. This position requires a blend of vigilance, integrity, and the ability to confront and resolve challenging situations. You will work closely with store management and be an integral part of the team, ensuring a secure shopping environment through effective loss prevention strategies and practices. 

 

Essential Functions of the Position: 

  • Conduct regular and random patrols of the store to identify and deter potential theft by customers or employees. 

  • Monitor CCTV systems and review footage to investigate incidents of theft, vandalism, and other suspicious activities. 

  • Engage directly with suspects in a professional manner to address and resolve potential theft incidents. 

  • While much of the work is independent, it also requires close collaboration with store management, staff, and occasionally law enforcement officialsto report and resolve incidents of theft and fraud. 

  • Implement and maintain loss prevention policies and procedures, adapting strategies as needed to minimize risks. 

  • Conduct risk assessments of store operations and recommend improvements to prevent potential losses. 

  • Prepare detailed reports on incidents and loss prevention activities for store management. 

 

Knowledge: 

  • Understanding of retail or grocery store operations, including sales, inventory management, and customer service. 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of modern loss prevention strategies, surveillance systems, and inventory control methods. 

  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal laws regarding theft, fraud, and retail security. Understanding of the legal ramifications of detaining suspects,handling evidence, and court testimony. 

  • Proficiency in using surveillance technologies, including CCTV systemsandalarm systems. 

 

 

  • The need to stay updated on the latest loss prevention techniques, security technology, and legal requirements related to the retail industry. This may involve participating in ongoing training and professional development opportunities. 

 

Skills: 

  • Exceptional ability to detect suspicious activities and identify potential security risks. Strong attention to detail. 

  • Ability to analyze situations quickly and identify the most appropriate course of action. Skill in investigating incidents and making calculatedconclusions. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact diplomatically with suspects, customers, and employees, as well as report writing. 

  • Skills in de-escalating potentially volatile situations calmly and effectively. Ability to mediate conflicts and resolve issues. 

 

Abilities: 

  • Ability to make sound decisions quickly, under pressure, and in situations where there may be ambiguity. 

  • Strong sense of integrity and ethics, with the ability to handle confidential information appropriately and make decisions that reflect the company's values. 

  • Ability to adapt to changing situations, handle multiple incidents simultaneously, and operate effectively in a dynamic retail environment. 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to move around the store and stand for long periods of time, including walking for extended periods, climbing stairs, and navigating through crowded spaces. 

  • Ability to occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs., including assisting in the prevention of theft and in emergency situations. 

  • Must possess strong visual acuity to observe suspicious activities and monitor security cameras. Auditory acuity is required to detect sounds indicative of theft or other emergencies. 

  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate security equipment, manage handcuffs (if applicable and legally permitted), and perform tasks such as writing reports. 

  • Must have the physical stamina to patrol the store premises extensively and handle potential confrontations with suspects effectively. 

  • Ability to bend, stoop, and reach as necessary during daily routines, investigations, and when engaging with suspects or conducting physical security checks. 

 

 

 

 

Work Conditions: 

  • While primarily an indoor role, duties may occasionally require outdoor work for monitoring external theft, assessing security risks, and conducting exterior property checks, in all weather conditions. 

  • The position may require working in shifts, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays to cover the store's operating hours. The schedule may vary based on the store's needs and special events. 

  • May encounter a range of situations, including dealing with difficult or confrontational individuals. Requires the ability to maintain composure and professionalism in stressful or potentially volatile situations. 

  • A strong focus on maintaining a safe environment for customers, employees, and self. Adherence to health and safety guidelines is paramount, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
