Job Title: Meat Deli Clerk

Job Summary:

The Meat Deli Clerk assists the Meat Manager in achieving the sales and profit goals established for the department by efficiently ordering and managing deli section products stock and back stock. Additionally, they are also responsible for contributing to a positive shopping experience for customers, including assisting in maintaining department quality standards.

 

 

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Ordering meat deli section items in a manner that maximizes sales, profitability and customer satisfaction while minimizing potential for shrink or loss to the company.
  • Maintains clean and organized freezer to maximize efficiency and inventory accuracy.
  • Follows procedures for stocking meat deli items in an efficient and effective manner utilizing organizational systems and necessary equipment to meet department standards.
  • Ensures proper rotation of product and quality control to minimize out of code and out of stock items.
  • Maintains organization and stock levels of meat deli items on the sales floor and in the meat department cooler and freezer.
  • Follows approved procedures for receiving product, pricing and stocking to ensure accuracy as well as product quality and proper rotation.
  • Reviews product invoices to ensure accuracy and quality control.
  • Replenishes fresh, frozen, and various other meat products in the meat department as assigned.
  • Prepare ground meat using a meat grinder.
  • Packages and labels fresh meat products using packaging machines according to meat manager and meat cutters daily needs.
  • Checks displays for any out-of-stock products to refill for customer purchases.
  • Moves product in and out of storage areas for proper display and storage of goods including in refrigerating storage boxes.
  • Assists in maintaining inventory control to ensure freshness, product quality and turnover for maximum sales and to minimize out of stock or overstocked products.
  • Cleans and sanitizes meat department daily to guarantee company safety standards are met along with federal, state, and local standards.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and assists in controlling the level of damaged goods.
  • Monitors expiration dates of labeled goods to ensure only fresh products are available for customer purchase.
  • Assists in ensuring a favorable department image to customers by maintaining a clean, attractive and friendly department.
  • Maintains a neat, well-groomed personal appearance at all times including observing company appearance standards.
  • Complies with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Follows local, state and federal health and civil code regulations.
  • Complies with all state, county and local weights and measures laws and labeling requirements.
  • Reports malfunctioning refrigeration or equipment to store management immediately.
  • Observes shift operating hours at all times as scheduled or assigned by store management.
  • Greets all customers and provides them with prompt and courteous service
  • Performs all other duties and assignments as directed.

 

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 1+ years of Meat Clerk experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to utilize ordering equipment and review invoices to ensure accuracy and troubleshoot discrepancies.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs as needed.

 

  • Ability to follow marketing plans for effective space management based on product movement, customer demand and profitability.
  • Ability to follow company protocols for receiving product to ensure product quality standards and accuracy of quantity.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow all safety protocols including food safety and properly utilizing and maintaining necessary equipment.

 

 

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and use hands to stock and prepare product and maintain department sanitization.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs. as needed.
  • Hand eye coordination and dexterity to properly utilize equipment to stock refrigerated sections of departments as well as displays.

 

 

 

Work Conditions:

  • Standard Work Hours: Typically, every day of the week including weekends and holidays with occasional overtime to meet project deadlines.
  • Work environment includes refrigerated storage areas and relatively damp or humid conditions including wet or slippery floor surfaces.
  • Noise levels are typically moderate but can be extremely noisy if a need arises to check on refrigeration or enter the compressor/machine room.
  • Dress Code: Professional and presentable, allowing for working in colder environment and utilizing safety toe and non slip shoes/boots when operating electric pallet jacks, forklifts, or pressure washers.
