Position Summary

The Reclamation Assessor is focused on mine site reclamation activities, specifically the post-reclamation monitoring programs.  This includes, but not limited to, the development and advancement of post-reclamation programs as per Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA) Approvals with a focus of achieving reclamation certification.

Supervisor Responsibilities

This position does not have formal direct supervisory responsibilities over other employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a Team to develop and implement post-reclamation monitoring plans focused on achieving reclamation certification.
  • Support the development of environmental strategies such as reclamation and closure plans, resource conservation and waste reduction.
  • Coordinate field activities including scheduling and budgeting.
  • Complete safety program requirements for all field activities.
  • Complete field data collection focused on soils and vegetation parameters.
  • Prepare reports including data analysis.
  • Support regulatory communication and correspondence.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher education related to Environmental Science, biology or related field.
  • Minimum 5-years of related work experience with a large focus on reclamation and post-reclamation monitoring.  Strong soils and vegetation skills are key for this role. Experience with field programs, data management & analysis, report writing and reclamation certification applications.
  • Project Management skills including field staff management, client management, contractor management, scheduling and budgeting.
  • Understanding of applicable reclamation regulations and regulatory guiding documents.  
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

Licenses, Registration, and Certifications

  • A professional designation (or in-training designation) with an applicable organization such as Alberta Society of Professional Biologist (ASPB) or Alberta Institute of Agrologists (AIA) would be considered an asset.
  • Safety certification is also a valuable asset, but training will also be provided, as required.

  • Experience operating light duty trucks, ATV/UTV, ARGO and trailers.

Location

  • Flexible including work from home as well as at various sites throughout Alberta.
  • A mix of desktop and field activities. Occasional evening or weekend work, as required.
  • Edmonton and Hanna, Alberta (main office centers).
