AbleLight is seeking a part-time Registered Nurse in the Orange County area. This nursing practice is directed toward assisting persons supported to achieve their highest possible level of health and independence. The nurse must practice in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary team to coordinate individual services. The nurse promotes wellness, normalization, and advocacy in providing services to individuals with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities. The nursing roles focuses primarily on interventions that maximize the psychosocial, physical, affective, cognitive and developmental strengths of the persons, families, staff, significant others, and those who deliver services. The Registered Nurse provides nursing leadership and serves as an advocate to ensure individuals receive appropriate healthcare treatment, health education, and other health related services which honor the rights of the person supported. 

 

Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an approved Registered Nursing educational program.
  • Must be licensed in the state of California.
  • Background in home health, community nursing, geriatrics, behavioral health, psychiatric nursing, and/or in the field of intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Must have experience with electronic medical records.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clear driving record.
  • Must have cleared and approved criminal record check.
  • Must hold First Aid/CPR certification and/or instructor, ability to obtain.
  • Must be able to assist with a two-person lift of an adult and lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be committed to the belief that all people have the right to dignity, respect, opportunity and full community inclusion.
  • Must function as an advocate for individuals whom care is provided.

  • Tuition Reimbursements

  • The range of compensation for this position is 33.29-41.59/hour, depending upon experience.
  • Mileage Reimbursement for travel between program sites.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes a therapeutic relationship with the person and maintains that relationship within boundaries.
  • Collaborates as part of the interdisciplinary team in developing, implementing, and evaluating the plan of care.
  • Collects health and functional status data for persons with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
  • Identifies health care needs for the person based on the data collected through the nursing process.
  • Develops a plan with goals and interventions specific to the needs of the person.
  • Implements the care plan to promote, maintain, or restore wellness, prevent illness, and/or provide appropriate end-of-life care.
  • Evaluates response of the person to the interventions and supports provided and revises the plan accordingly.
  • Participates in the quality assurance process to assure continuous improvement in the quality of health care supports.
  • Supports individuals to achieve their best possible health and to manage their own care.
  • Responsible for educating the individuals under their care, family members, members of the individual’s support team and the public, including health care providers. The education is to include information about the individual's care and needs of an individual with intellectual and/or developmental disability.
  • Responsible for instructing unlicensed personnel in health-related subjects and courses as required by the program licensure.
  • Assumes responsibility for continued professional development, and accountability. Obtains sufficient CEUs for continued active RN licensure in the state of practice.  
  • Provides nursing care according to the physician’s orders, in compliance with recognized nursing standards and State and Federal Regulations.
  • Participates in quality assurance data collection and reporting.
  • All other duties as assigned.
