Position Summary:

Writing Center Student Tutor for 2024-2025 

Writing Center tutors assist peers with writing-related skills for all courses, holding in-person and online sessions. Writing tutors work a set schedule in the Writing Center for 4 to 9 hours per week including required paid training and staff meetings. Other job duties include leading class visits, helping to design and present workshops, tabling, and assisting with special events. This is a great job for people who enjoy writing and are organized, patient, and comfortable greeting/presenting! 

Students of any major are encouraged to apply, but tutors are particularly needed with a strong writing background in psychology, communications, business, biology/chemistry, sociology, or political science. Federal work study eligibility preferred but not required. Applicants need to have completed (or be about to complete) ENG101/ENG102 and FYS or transfer equivalent unless exempt.

Essential Job Functions: Working with peers one-on-one for writing and reading tutoring, helping with writing workshops and other special events

 

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. 

 

The individual is routinely exposed to indoor conditions, minimum outdoor weather and temperature extremes, and moderate noise level.

 

Qualifications/Prerequisites:

 

  1. SKILLS
    1. Strong writing skills across the academic disciplines including brainstorming, drafting, revising/editing, and research skills.
    2. High degree of reliability, clear spoken and written communication, effective e-mail management.
    3. Ability to work both collaboratively and independently, and typing speed that would allow for effective online tutoring.
    4. Familiarity with Microsoft Word.

 

  1. EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE
    1. None required. Experience working closely with peers or youth in an educational environment preferred

 

  1. EDUCATION
  1. Current full-time Albright College student.
  2. Candidates should have completed both ENG 101 and ENG 102 and FYS (or exemption or transfer equivalent) before the Fall 2024 semester.
  3. Tutors should have a strong grade in English composition, FYS, and other writing-intensive courses.
