Position Summary:

The Counseling Center Peer Educator will research, plan and implement meaningful educational programs and events throughout the academic school year that focus on mental health awareness topics.  The Counseling Center Peer Educator will have the opportunity to work on leadership skills and begin to grow in a professional capacity while simultaneously benefitting the campus community.  The Counseling Center Peer Educator will report to the SAMHSA Grant Project Manager and the Director of the Counseling Center.

 

Essential Job Functions:

The primary focus of peer educator programming will be on educational programs and experience events that are designed to raise awareness of mental health on campus. The Counseling Center Peer Educator will plan and host activities that promote mental wellness and familiarize students with the Counseling Center’s services. Additionally, the Counseling Center Peer Educator will assist with planning, promoting, and producing screening day events on campus related to general mental health, eating disorders, and drug and alcohol awareness.

The Counseling Center Peer Educator must work 7-10 hours per week during each semester, as well as attend mandatory events, meetings, and trainings.  Hours outside of scheduled events must be performed on-site in Roessner Hall during a set schedule between 10:30 AM and 3:30 PM Monday through Friday.

 

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job.  The individual is routinely exposed to indoor conditions, minimum outdoor weather and temperature extremes, and moderate noise level.

 

Qualifications/Prerequisites:

  3. Passion for promoting mental health awareness.
  4. Interest in and ability to speak publicly about mental health across the Albright campus.
  5. Reliability and punctuality.
  6. Availability and desire to host and/or attend events both during the day and in the evenings or on weekends as necessary.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Strong interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills. 
  9. Self-starter who is able to work both independently and cooperatively in a team environment.
  10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and internet research.

    1. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA
    2. A major in psychology or public health is preferred but not required
