Position Summary:

Student clerks in Albright’s Store play an active and important public service role by representing the college to various internal and external individuals who might be browsing or looking to purchase branded apparel and merchandise, books and academic supplies, gifts and more. Clerks serve as the “face” of the college, greeting and welcoming visitors to the store. Additional duties including: providing assistance to visitors as they shop, helping students with book orders/fulfillment, processing sales transactions in the POS (point-of-sale) system, conducting inventory counts, pricing merchandise, preparing items for shipping, and more. Training will be provided. Prior experience in a retail setting is preferred. Clerks should familiarize themselves with inventory and general information about campus and current events happening on campus. On occasion, some sales events may be held offsite and on evening/weekend hours such as pop-up shops for athletic games.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Actively greet visitors and answer general questions
  2. Assist customers in-person, by phone and online regarding questions about book orders/fulfillment and store merchandise.
  3. Regularly familiarize yourself with existing and new merchandise.
  4. Actively participate in training, reading and understanding verbal and documented instructions for operations of POS system and policies related to the store experience.
  5. Promptly provide a schedule of availability for shifts when asked.
  6. Assist with pricing, stocking, and inventory counts as required.
  7. Assist with shipping, packing/unpacking, and general cleaning of sales floor and storage areas.
  8. While on duty, monitor the store, notifying appropriate staff of security or maintenance issues.
  9. Process sales accurately in the POS system.

 

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. 

 

The individual is routinely exposed to indoor conditions, minimum outdoor weather and temperature extremes, and moderate noise level.

 

The gallery is currently open Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and shifts fall within these time periods. Additional coverage for events, like opening receptions may be needed for evenings or weekends and will be indicated in advance.

 

Qualifications/Prerequisites:

 

  1. SKILLS
  1. Must have excellent customer service skills, including the ability to proactively engage customers.
  2. Demonstrated interest in Albright College and retail operations.

 

  1. EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE
  1. Prior work experience not required, but prior retail experience a bonus.

 

  1. EDUCATION
  1. Must be a currently enrolled student at Albright College.
