Position Summary:

Student Officers assist with the everyday operations of the Public Safety Department. The Student Officer Program is not only intended as a source of income, but a branch of the student’s education. The program provides opportunities to gain useful job skills and grow personally and professionally. As members of the Public Safety Department, Student Officers receive training in radio communications, computer processes, dispatching, customer service, community relations, traffic control techniques, in addition to other useful skills. Public Safety operates twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays and weekends.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Answering phones
  2. Dispatching officers
  3. Daily Activity Log
  4. Video Surveillance
  5. Emergency Response Plan
  6. Simplex Grinnell Alarms
  7. Issuing keys and Identification Cards
  8. Campus Lost & Found Records
  9. Taking messages
  10. Helping with special events outside of the office
  11. Parking Lot Management during special events
  12. Greeting visitors, students, faculty, and staff
  13. Data entry/Computer projects
  14. Building Access Procedures
  15. Phone Check Logs/Data entry
  16. Testing emergency phones on campus

 

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job. 

 

The individual is routinely exposed to indoor conditions, minimum outdoor weather and temperature extremes, and moderate noise level.

 

Qualifications/Prerequisites:

 

  1. SKILLS
  1. The ability to use Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel is required.
  2. The ability to learn other basic computer and technology processes as needed is preferred.
  3. Ability to work occasional weekend and night shift hours are required.

 

  1. EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE
  1. Criminology majors are especially encouraged to apply, but the position is open to all areas of study.
