Position Summary:

The mission of the Student First Responder position is to aid the Athletic Training Staff. This position will help young adults learn the responsibility for their work, to be held accountable for their actions and to accept reward for achievement of goals. This position also provides a social forum for students to interact in a variety of both educational and fun settings.


Essential Job Functions:

The Student First Responder works as an extension of the Sports Medicine Staff at Albright College. The Student First Responder will be responsible for assisting the Sports Medicine Department with daily operations. This includes organizing set up/ break down of athletic events, acting as a first responder when necessary and assisting the Sports Medicine Department with the organization and management of the Athletic Training Room, including the handling of medical paperwork and other duties assigned by acting manager.

 

These duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  1. Will work under and are responsible to the Staff Athletic Trainers
  2. Administer first aid as directed by the Staff Athletic Trainers
  3. Get Sports Medicine equipment and supplies prepared and set-up for events (all practices, games, meets and contests; both home and away events) and returned to the training room after the event (s) as directed by the Staff Athletic Trainers.
  4. Proper cleaning and storage of all Sports Medicine equipment after all practices and events as directed by the Staff Athletic Trainers.
  5. Assist in the loading and unloading of all Sports Medicine equipment and supplies.
  6. Assist with keeping a current inventory of equipment and supplies.
  7. Keep the Athletic Training Room clean and sanitary at all times. The Athletic Training Room is a medical facility and should be treated as such.
  8. Maintain neat and organized storage room(s)
  9. Know your Athletic Training Room (s). Learn the location and purpose of equipment/ supplies
  10. Report all injuries to Staff Athletic Trainer.

 

The Student First Responder should:

  1. Apply good work ethics
  2. Demonstrate good attitude
  3. Follow the practice/ game duties
  4. Be a good role model at school, games and in the community
  5. Demonstrate leadership qualities
  6. Be willing to cover any and all job assignments
  7. Know where everything is on sideline/ venue for all sport events that you cover. Keep the sideline clean and organized.
  8. Actively provide hydration to teams during shift.
  9. You will be assigned shift times by acting manager. If there is a conflict and you are unable to work, you are responsible for finding a replacement for that shift.
  10. Do not leave the field/court/ practice/ games (etc.) without notifying the Staff Athletic Trainer
  11. Learning and understanding Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) skills, first aid skills.
  12. Learning, understanding, and implementing the appropriate use of universal precautions for bodily fluids.

 

Daily Tasks:

Daily procedure may change depending on the day. Always check with the Athletic Trainer(s) to modify if necessary. These duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Clean all cold tubs and hot tub, including filter.
  2. Re-fill cleaning solution in bottles.
  3. Drain, clean and refill hydrocollator(s)
  4. Stock and organize taping tables/ med kits/ back up supplies. Make heel/ lace pads.
  5. Clean and straighten all modalities, as well as all therapeutic equipment.
  6. Wipe down all surfaces.
  7. Vacuum/ mop floor surface.
  8. Fill and break down all water cooler/ bottles needed for the day

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this job.

 

The individual is routinely exposed to indoor conditions, minimum outdoor weather and temperature extremes, and moderate noise level.
