Under the Direction of the Audio-Visual Technical Manager, the Audio-Visual Technician role involves assisting with audiovisual (AV) equipment for events, including sports, concerts, and meetings. Responsibilities include setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting AV equipment, performing electrical wiring, and working closely with management and technical support with overseeing the production of all audio/video (AV) productions in the War Memorial Coliseum.  This position is Covered as defined by The Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen Employee Handbook.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  • Provide reinforcement responsibilities for sound systems.
  • Complete lighting system responsibilities for building activities and sporting events.
  • Plan and review events with personnel, including renting or purchasing additional equipment, and obtaining quotes.
  • Coordinate AV activities for sporting events, including setting up, operating, and storing equipment.
  • Provide support for concerts, commencements, and meetings, including intercom, spotlights, video, and lighting
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients to facilitate smooth production and assist event coordinators.
  • Ensure equipment malfunctions are handled promptly to meet client standards and ensure flawless events.
  • Transport, set up, and install media equipment such as speakers, monitors, cameras, and equipment racks.
  • Perform electrical wiring, programming, and basic construction according to layout diagrams and schedules.
  • Run tests on video, audio, and signals, troubleshooting any issues that arise.
  • Work on trade shows and expo events, handling sound, lighting, and electrical needs.
  • Maintain and upgrade existing equipment such as sound systems, lights, televisions, and projectors.
  • Perform cleaning, maintenance, and repairs on audiovisual equipment.
  • Manage inventory of equipment, wiring, and accessories.
  • Safely disassemble equipment, wiring, and support tools after events.
  • Perform relamping lighting responsibilities, including managing inventory and installing new fixtures.
  • Maintain televisions and radio systems.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned, including additional hours as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED with three years’ experience in sports and/or event production or related field
  • Certificates in Information Technology or AV production preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License to operate County owned vehicles
  • Knowledge of arena scoring equipment to troubleshoot problems and operate the equipment
  • Knowledge of AV production logistics to plan, prepare, and set-up productions appealing to clients and guests
  • Ability to work in a high stress environment with time constraints
  • Knowledge of electricity to pull cables, create custom video/data cables, and troubleshoot issues
  • Ability to work well in a team to complete tasks and goals given to the AV production team

REQUIREMENTS (Continued):

 

  • Ability to troubleshoot issues that arise during live productions
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including nights, holidays, and weekends to work events
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to use Microsoft Office and other job-related software

 

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

The Audio-Visual Technician is tasked with supporting the management of audiovisual equipment for various events, ensuring seamless operations and client satisfaction through customized issue resolution. Effective collaboration with clients and coordinators, inventory management, and adherence to safety protocols are vital. Success is contingent upon adaptability, ongoing learning, and a commitment to meeting performance expectations, all of which contribute to event success and positive relationships.

RESPONSIBILITY:

 

The Audio-Visual Technician's responsibilities include setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting AV equipment, performing electrical wiring, and collaborating closely with management and technical support to oversee all audio/video productions at the War Memorial Coliseum complex. They ensure equipment is well-maintained and in working order, with tasks reviewed to align with the Coliseum's mission.

 

PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:

 

The Audio-Visual Technician works with other county employees and the general public when assisting with the production of all AV productions with the War Memorial Coliseum.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

The Audio-Visual Technician works in a standard office environment with the ability to move about freely with frequent sitting, typing, finger dexterity, color distinction, attention to detail, visual inspection, hand/eye coordination, and hearing.  Some lifting up to thirty pounds, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching, grasping, holding, writing, and speaking are to be expected. The Audio-Visual Technician has frequent exposure to extreme noise and some dangerous equipment, forklifts, heavy equipment, and confined spaces.

Valid Driver’s License to operate County owned vehicles
