Chemical Testing Technician (Male)

 

Department: Superior Court-Criminal Division Services                   FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Under the direction of the Executive Director and Assistant Director of Criminal Division Services, the Chemical Testing Technician is responsible for conducting supervised and observed chemical testing on male program participants, maintaining the chemical testing lab and preparing specimens for shipment for Criminal Division Services (CDS).

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Conducts supervised and observed chemical testing on male clients on a frequent basis; maintains detailed and accurate testing records, including chain of custody
  • Conducts observed oral fluid testing on clients as needed
  • Performs breath alcohol-sensor tests as needed
  • Uses instant panel dip substance abuse screening devices and interprets results as requested
  • Prepares and maintains the Chemical testing lab on a daily basis; maintains and inventories the drug testing, shipping and lab supplies and orders more when needed
  • Sorts, verifies, prepares and packages the specimen collections for daily pick-up
  • Verifies, sorts and distributes the daily drug screen results and reports that are received from the toxicology lab
  • Enters chemical testing results into program databases as directed.
  • Closely monitors and detects any potential device or substance used to interfere with the chemical test during the collection of the sample; completes the necessary documents and Court affidavits, notifies law enforcement authorities and follows internal policy/procedure
  • Testifies in Court regarding client violations and/or observed drug screens as required
  • Attends trainings, conferences and seminars as required
  • Filing/shredding as needed/required
  • Assists with special projects as needed and performs any/all other duties as assigned.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or HSE
  • Prior human service experience preferred.
  • Must be male in gender in order to perform observed chemical testing on male clients.
  • Detail oriented and ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to effectively observe and direct clients to assure proper compliance with chemical testing collection requirements and protocols.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply evidence collection and preservation techniques
  • Must be detail oriented and have the ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all department records and information
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment such as telephone, fax, copier and computer

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Chemical Testing Technician works in a standard office setting with frequent sitting and the ability to move about freely, some lifting of up to twenty pounds, pushing/pulling, reaching overhead, and exposure to bodily fluids, with frequent bending detailed inspection, mental/visual effort, and attention to detail.  The Chemical Testing Technician may have contact with aggressive, hostile, intoxicated, and potentially dangerous program clients and their families.

HOURS:

37.5 Hours per Week

Monday – Friday; 8:00 am – 4:30 pm    

Occasional weekend day required
