Student Government’s purpose is to lead the Sacramento State community in serving the diverse needs of Sacramento State students by promoting leadership development, shared governance, relationship building, community betterment, and lifelong personal and professional growth.

 





 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Executive & Board Associate, the California State Student Association (CSSA) Liaison is responsible for participating in monthly plenary meetings of the CSSA Board of Directors as the ASI Board of Directors’ representative. The CSSA Liaison is responsible for keeping the Board of Directors informed about higher education issues at the local, State and national level, most specifically those put before the CSSA Board of Directors.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend monthly CSSA Plenary Meetings to support the ASI President; serves as the voting representative in the President’s absence.
  • Attend the annual board planning retreat and weekly regular board meetings during the fall and spring semesters.
  • Report verbally or in writing to the Board regarding higher education issues under consideration by the CSSA Board.
  • Work in coordination with the OGA Legislative Affairs Coordinator to represent the ASI Board of Directors’ position on bills affecting higher education at the State Capitol.
  • May develop action plans to respond to campaigns, legislation, or other pertinent items as part of the Board’s Strategic Priorities. This may involve organizing rallies, informational meetings, presentations or other special     events.
  • Assist the Legislative Affairs Coordinator in organizing and implementing lobby training for the students of Sacramento State.
  • Serve as the Vice Chair for Lobby Corps which meets on Thursday afternoon during the academic session.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 units at Sacramento State; maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA overall (for Student Assistant incumbents)
  • Knowledge of higher education issues at the state and national level
  • Ability to travel for monthly meetings which are held on weekends throughout the academic year
  • Ability to secure reliable transportation in order to attend meetings off of the Sacramento State campus Proven strong organizational skills
  • Basic Knowledge of PC windows-based personal computers - Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Ability to work outside of typical working hours

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with event and/or project planning
  • Previous public speaking experience
  • Knowledge of the State legislative process
