Baltimore Jewish Council is the community relations and advocacy arm of The Associated. At all levels of government, we advocate for social justice and public resources on issues of concern to the Jewish community. By developing policies and guidelines for action, through education and advocacy, BJC provides a forum for member organizations and individuals to respond to issues of interest and concern.

 

Program Director for Elijah Cummings Youth Program

 

 

Organization Description:

The Elijah Cummings Youth Program in Israel (ECYP) is a two-year leadership development fellowship for exceptional high school students in the Baltimore area. Our youth fellows gain the skills and experience to become leaders in intercultural and interethnic relations, especially between the Jewish and Black communities. ECYP works in partnership with the Baltimore Jewish Council (BJC).

 

Position Description:

ECYP prepares 25 students (split between high school juniors and seniors) to serve as open-minded leaders in a diverse society. The role of the Program Director is to recruit, train and support ECYP fellows. The Program Director will also support ECYP’s effort to engage ECYP alumni. The Program Director will report to the Executive Director of ECYP, while working as part of the larger Baltimore Jewish Council team.

 

Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Manage ECYP’s recruitment effort. The Program Director will be responsible for outreach to schools, scheduling recruitment sessions, and facilitating recruitment sessions for interested students and families.
  • Mange ECYP’s after school program. The Program Director will plan, coordinate, and implement ECYP’s youth fellowship. Responsibilities include scheduling speakers and facilitating workshops and seminars. The Program Director will also be tasked with working in collaboration with ECYP’s Executive Director to research, develop, and implement curriculum ideas for future workshops.
  • Nurture and build community partnerships to enhance ECYP’s program.
  • Work in collaboration with the BJC’s Director of Community Relations to facilitate the Social Justice Teen Fellowship
  • Communicate program information to students and families throughout the program year.
  • Chaperone ECYP students on day trips and occasional overnight trips, including up to a month of travel to Israel (when conditions allow).
  • Manage ECYP’s marketing and communications efforts via social media and other communication platforms.
  • Support the planning of ECYP events
  • In collaboration with ECYP’s Executive Director, staff ECYP Board committees and provide administrative support, which may include logistics, recording meetings, and taking notes.

 

ECYP and the BJC offer a hybrid work environment for employees. The position will primarily work out of the BJC’s Park Heights office. (Note: Staff are currently fully remote. ECYP/BJC staff are expected to return to The Associated’s Park Heights campus at Park Heights Avenue and Northern Parkway in spring 2025.) 

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Available to work Monday through Friday 8:30 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. with noted exceptions of  10:30 A.M- 6:30 P.M. on ECYP program days, along with some evenings, and occasional Sundays
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Ability to organize time and work independently/proactively
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Adept and comfortable at creating and maintaining relationships with diverse groups
  • Passion for the mission of ECYP and interest in working with multi-ethnic communities
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including use of Microsoft Office products
  • Have reliable transportation

 

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $55,000 to $60,000 annually. Salary commensurate with experience.
