Teva is the premier Jewish environmental education program in the country. Our Shomrei Adamah program provides transformational experiences in nature for Jewish day school studentsWe are seeking a hard-working, experienced and committed Medic to join our Fall Teva team at the Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center, from September 23rd to November 21, 2024. Specific dates TBD based on needs. We are looking for someone who has experience working with kids and dealing with injuries in outdoor settings and is certified as an EMT (we will also consider highly experienced candidates with Wilderness First Aid and CPR). 

Teva programs are dynamic and highly collaborative, relying on the skills and talents of all team members to bring engaging and memorable programming to our studentsThe medic is an essential part of this team and plays a key role in enabling students to feel safe trying new things, whether on the trails or the Isabella Freedman campus.

Job Summary: 

Medical Responsibilities  

  • Medical Treatment: Handle all program-related medical issues and emergencies, as well as general sickness, and be on-call at night for medical consultation if needed. Medical emergencies beyond the qualifications of the medic will be referred to 911.  
  • Medical concerns prior to students’ arrival: Speak with parents and review medical forms.  
  • Staff Training: ensure that staff are knowledgeable and feel comfortable assessing situations and reaching out for medical help. 
  • Food Safety: liaise between parents, kitchen staff, and students regarding dietary needs, leading up to the program as well as assisting with meal and snack times.  
  • If licensed, distribute medicines to visiting students on site.  

General Responsibilities: 

  • Programmatic and administrative support as needed, to ensure the success of Teva programs, as well as student safety and happiness. 
  • General support of Teva and Adamah, as an integral member of the Adamah staff. 

Qualifications:  

Current WFA, WFR, EMT, Paramedic, Nurse or comparable certificate. 

  • Current CPR/AED certification.  
  • In excellent physical and mental health.  
  • Demonstrated skill and genuine enthusiasm for working with children.  
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills: must be able to work as part of a close-knit, interdependent team.  
  • Ability to put immediate needs of students first at all times.  
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures. 

General: 

It is everyone’s job to ensure the financial health of the organization through retreat sales, program revenue, and/or fundraising. 

  • Attend weekly department meetings.
  • Attend monthly all-staff meetings.
  • Must possess a solid work ethic with strong organizational and time-management skills, excellent attention to detail, professional verbal, and written communication skills in English, as well as provide excellent customer service. 
  • Must maintain a professional demeanor. 
  • Must be able to adapt to changing situations.
  • Other tasks/duties as assigned. 

Working Conditions: 

This is a non-exempt position with work hours set to Monday-Friday OR Sunday-Thursday depending on schedule.
