This position is located in San Diego, CA.

Compensation: $125,000 - $145,000 yearly DOE

Job Responsibilities:

As Site Superintendent, duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee daily construction activities at the work site, including work procedures and cost controls
  • Review subcontractor scope and field coordination and perform day-to-day on-site management
  • Prepare short-term schedule
  • Update and oversee quality control and safety programs
  • Monitor and implement safety programs to ensure all site personnel including subcontractor employees are properly trained in safety protocols prior to project commencement
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures
  • Schedule workers and oversee in-house trades and supervise and coordinate multiple contractors
  • Manage delivery of equipment and materials to work site
  • Ensure project conformance to national and/or local building codes
  • Maintain accurate records and manage overall progress of the project
  • Maintain involvement in the planning, direction, coordination and budgeting of project activities concerning the construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems through subordinate supervisory personnel

Project Scope of Work:

Upgrade the domestic hot and cold water systems across three buildings. Work includes general construction, alterations, and necessary removal of existing systems and structures. This includes the installation of a monitoring and control system of the existing domestic hot and cold water systems as well as the disconnection, capping, and removal of all domestic water dead legs and abandoned or unused plumbing fixture runouts. Abatement of asbestos containing materials (where present) shall be performed for piping to be removed. Work also includes the installation of zone isolation valves, removal and replacement of existing domestic hot and cold water balancing valves, isolation valves, and circuit solvers and providing new thermostatic mixing valves for scald protection for all fixtures. Installation of distal water quality monitors for both the hot and cold water systems, as well as remote read temperature sensors on the hot water return system in each building. Installation of a new domestic cold water shell and tube heat exchanger and recirculation system to control cold water temperature. Installation of a new dedicated air-cooled chiller, pump, chemical pot feeder, expansion tank, buffer tank, piping, valves, supports, and all structural modifications and seismic supports and bracing to secure the new piping and equipment. Finally, providing structural mounting and seismic bracing for all new equipment, new monitoring panels, and new piping, valves, and fittings.

Job Qualifications:

  • 10 years’ experience of similar size and magnitude in Federal construction
  • Plumbing background, experience with VA hospitals or other hospitals, is favorable
  • Although not required, current USACE CQM-C certification, EM-385-1-1 40 Hour certification, and OSHA 30 certification is favorable

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to maneuver around work sites, see, hear, and verbally communicate with co-workers and clients. Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining the physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods of time; frequent opportunities to move about and to work outside the office environment for extended periods involving exposure to the elements with weather that will include extreme heat, cold, wind, rain or other inclement weather, walking over rough and uneven surfaces, and routine lifting of up to 35 pounds. If required, must properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times including but not limited to; hard hats, steel-toed boots, eye protection, respiratory protection, and hearing protection. Must maintain a constant state of mental alertness at all times. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Working Conditions:

Job is performed in a combination of office and outdoor site locations. The office setting includes exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse. Outdoor settings include walking, driving, and carrying supplies throughout all seasons with exposure to heat and cold conditions, and potentially wildlife. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
