The Staff Accountant reports directly to a Senior Accountant.  This role is responsible for completing timely monthly financial reporting for a designated group of Benchmark owned/managed communities.  This responsibility includes assisting with timely preparation of monthly financial packages, maintaining accurate records, preparing detailed reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, and reporting accurate monthly revenues and expenses.  Additionally, the Community Accountant is responsible for assisting with SOX compliance as well as preparing monthly financial reporting package and annual reporting for a 501c3 charity. In addition, this position provides general assistance and guidance to the Community Accounting team. 

Major responsibilities:

  • Maintains monthly balance sheet work papers, including, but not limited to:
    • Accounts payable
    • Prepaid reconciliations
    • Prepares monthly bank reconciliations
    • Accrued reconciliations
  • Posts monthly journal entries (including, but not limited to, payroll journals, payroll accruals, other accruals)
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly financial packages including the income statement and balance sheet
  • Coordinate and assist with preparation of interim and year-end audit work papers
  • Work with external auditors
  • Review accounts payable batches
  • Review and process community move out accounting through ticket system.
  • Provides financial information, as needed, to internal budget & forecasting team
  • Coordinates directly with community personnel for any financial related data needs
  • Provides assistance to the Community Accounting team and Controller

    • GL accounting software (Yardi experience a plus)

Education/Experience:

  • BS or BA degree in accounting, finance or business from accredited college or university
