We have a wonderful opportunity for an Engineer to join our Facilities & Engineering team at Bloodworks Northwest. The incumbent will be responsible for Providing specialized skills and expertise in the equipment repair and maintenance of critical building systems required in a 24/7 healthcare facility. Operate efficiently, meeting strict environmental and regulatory standards with minimal supervision in a wide variety of facilities throughout the Puget Sound region.

 

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

 

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on a wide variety of equipment including refrigeration, HVAC, building controls, lab, and medical equipment, etc.
  • Escalate issues to the Senior Engineer, Chief Engineer, or others as appropriate.
  • Install and ensure the operation of monitoring systems and components.
  • Communicate with vendors to troubleshoot and schedule repairs/maintenance; greet and assist while vendors are on-site.
  • Document maintenance, repairs, and completed work for inclusion in the equipment database.
  • Interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools; may work with a variety of chemicals including cleaning products, solvents, glues, etc..
  • Rotate on-call responsibility and after-hours response.  On-call responsibility requires the ability to be available on short notice, twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 REQUIREMENTS:


Education & Experience:

  • Minimum two years of relevant maintenance/repair experience.
  • Skilled work in one or more of the following areas (equivalent to journey-level): HVAC, Refrigeration, Electrical Laboratory/Electronics, Equipment Digital Building, Controls Mechanics
  • High School graduate or G.E.D. plus additional vocational course work preferred.
  • Required licenses, certification, and course work depend on areas of expertise.
  • To obtain access to some equipment and client facilities, the incumbent may be required to obtain additional credentialing (e.g., background checks, drug testing, etc.).

 

Specific job skills include, but are not limited to: 

  • Required physical activities include continuous standing, walking, and kneeling.  Required physical activities used less frequently include reaching, climbing, handling, and repetitive motions of hands/wrists/feet (used frequently); stooping, sitting, bending, and crawling (used occasionally).
  • The ability to lift, pull, push, and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no direct supervision.
  • Possess and maintain a driver's license for at least 3 years.
  • Valid State Driver's License with an acceptable driving record in the State of residence.
  • Use of a company or personal vehicle for company business requires an acceptable driver's record as defined by the vehicle policy.
  • Ability to operate a wide variety of vehicles.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Position requires frequent local travel, close work, constant standing, and heavy lifting, rotating on-call status, occasional overtime, and computer use (occasionally).
  • Ability to work scheduled on-call, holidays, and weekends.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • As this is an essential position with direct responsibility to donors and/or patients, the incumbent should be prepared to work extended and/or consecutive shifts and/or possibly at a different location during periods of inclement weather or other emergencies. 
  • This position has direct exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
