JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Program Manager to lead our Teaching Culture, Honoring Heritage: Bristol Bay’s Native Language Empowerment Collaborative (TC2H) project and partnering on the Building Up Bristol Bay Language Education (BUBBLE) Project. The Program Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing and implementing Alutiiq language initiatives that align with the foundation's goals. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in program management, a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by Alaska Native communities, and a passion for promoting education and cultural preservation. This individual will have knowledge and/or curiosity about the Alaska Peninsula Alutiiq culture and language, and K-12 education systems.  This position is grant funded through a Department of Education Alaska Native Education Program grant and is therefore responsible for developing and implementing plans to meet the objectives listed in the project’s logic models.  

 

ESSENTIAL Job Responsibilities:

  • Act as owner/lead for all BBF program outcomes outlined in the TC2H project, review and adjust strategies as needed.
  • This position manages project activities including the revision of existing Pre-K-12 curriculum into Alutiiq language; oversight of a new supplementary materials; design and implement in-service training for teachers in LPSD and BBBSD on the curriculum, incorporating trauma/healing-informed practices; Manage linguist in creating and hosting virtual Alutiiq language sessions, the production of resources, and class rubrics; Arrange for dual credit for HS students for Alutiiq through the University of Alaska – Kodiak Campus; and work With professionals who have specialized training on indigenous trauma and healing to build capacity for program staff and educators to equip them with trauma/healing-informed strategies for working with Indigenous learners and speakers.
  • Develop and implement timelines and operational plans for the BBF TC2H activities with project team.
  • Collaborate with, supervise and support BBF linguist position.
  • Partner with BBF Program Director on implementation of BUBBLE project, providing support and expertise as needed.
  • Manage the specific budget for the TC2H project, ensuring fiscal responsibility and accountability.
  • Gather and provide data to external evaluator, supporting the robust monitoring and evaluation processes to assess program effectiveness.
  • Integrate cultural preservation efforts into educational activities, respecting and celebrating the rich heritage of Alaska Native communities.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Work in partnership with other dedicated project partners with TC2H and BUBBLE partners specifically those dedicated to language educational initiatives in Dena’ina and Yup’ik.  
  • Consult with Tribes, community leaders, educators, and other stakeholders to understand the local context and ensure program relevance.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Alutiiq language speaker or learner
  • Experience working with preK-12 students, parents, educators, and communities.
  • Proven experience in program management, particularly in the context of education and community development.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the cultural nuances of Alaska Native communities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Budget management experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Education, Public Administration, Business or a related field.

 

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, walking and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Work environment includes various locations in office and other public buildings and use of computer, audio/visual and general office equipment.
