PURPOSE AND ROLE:

The Supervisor, Fixed Equipment is responsible to lead the pipefitters, welders, and boilermaker crews. The supervisor has the responsibility for the safe, environmentally sound, PSM compliant, reliable, and economic repair of refinery piping and fixed equipment. This position is responsible the maintenance activities for the craft, in such a manner that high quality repairs are completed in a timely manner, in support of site reliability objectives. This role is also responsible for the productivity of the craft and contractors under their direction.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reports directly to Maintenance Superintendent
  • Assumes responsibilities of Maintenance Superintendent when necessary
  • Ensure craft perform all work safely and in accordance with all Calumet procedures.
  • Coordinates daily job duties for Fixed Equipment maintenance personnel.
  • Execute the daily maintenance schedule and manage higher priority work for Fixed equipment.
  • Efficient utilization of the MMS (Maintenance Management System); timely close out of work orders, updating of maintenance task routine, generation of reports, etc.
  • Complete piping and fixed equipment projects as directed.
  • Direct major equipment repairs, select and follow work in off-site shops, select and supervise contractors and chosen vendors.
  • Monitor the condition of equipment in the plant in cooperation with the operations group to maintain reliable operation.
  • Establish the performance standards for maintenance utilizing KPI's, develop the method of measurement and provide timely and routine feedback to those responsible for the performance (performance management)
  • Must be able to interpret Process Flow Diagrams and Process System P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Drawings).  Must be able to read engineering drawings related to all site fixed equipment and piping.
  • Troubleshoot quality and process problems in collaboration with operations, process engineers, reliability engineers, inspections, and others to ensure that all aspects of equipment operation and maintenance are managed.
  • Perform field audits of work to ensure safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Lead craft in participation of Plant Housekeeping.
  • Learn and apply Calumet Engineering Standards
  • Train and coach, the fixed equipment craft to evaluate and improve performance of the team in a continuous manner.
  • Flexible and willing to work rotating shifts as needed – including overtime and nights/weekend callouts.
  • Other activities as directed by the Maintenance Superintendent
  • Participates in performance and coaching activities for individual employees on shift.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or Degree in Related Field
  • Working knowledge of functions and design/operation of plant equipment, process and products; methods development and procedures; industrial and personnel administration; labor relations; repair maintenance of equipment; understanding of codes; read, understand and direct work for fabrication according to design isometrics and specifications; piping layout and fabrication.
  • 10 or more years technical or craft experience in fixed equipment/piping in Refining, Chemical, or related Industrial fields and strong exposure to maintenance principles and practices.  The candidate will have demonstrated success in positions with supervisory responsibilities of at least 3 years of the 10 years above.

OR

  • Engineering degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial. Science or Business degrees may be considered depending on associated experience. Candidate must have 5 years of experience after degree in an industrial setting.

 

COMPETENCIES:

  • Good communication, training, mentoring skills required.
  • Sound leadership skills required.
  • Extensive working knowledge of field maintenance processes in fixed equipment/piping.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities and prioritize tasks with minimal direction or oversight.
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis techniques and very strong troubleshooting capability
  • Proven safety experience/training and leadership regarding oil and gas operations including but not limited to; confined space, lock out tag out, hot work, safe work permits, personal protective equipment, and other critical safety procedures.
  • Ability to learn any potential new Engineering processes/systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of applicable ANSI and API standards related to piping systems.
