IT Engineer - Systems

PURPOSE:

Working in conjunction with Senior Engineering staff, the IT Engineer - Systems is responsible for effective installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of IT Infrastructure-related hardware and software. This role focuses on understanding the relationship between large IT systems and the many end-users that rely on them. The IT Engineer – Systems operates on these systems strategically, ensuring minimal downtime and minimal negative downstream impact. The purpose of this role is to provide reliable services to the company that allows the business to enhance communication and efficiency.

KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Complete projects planned out by the IT Infrastructure team
• Maintain a high level of service uptime for production systems
• Act as the escalation point for IT System Administrators, the IT Operations group, and other staff within the IT department on IT infrastructure-related questions or problems
• Review system logs to verify operational integrity and preempt potential failures
• Administration of VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter Server. Experience with VMware NSX is also desirable
• Deploy and maintain storage area networks (SAN) and network attached storage (NAS) at local and remote locations
• Patch and upgrade IT infrastructure systems on a regular basis
• Manage server backup systems such as Veeam, Nakivo, or similar solutions
• Administration of networking within vSphere, VMC (VMware Managed Cloud), or other cloud environment
• Manage IAM (Identity and Access Management) and EC2 (Elastic Cloud Compute) instances in AWS or other cloud environments
• The ability to review/create scripts and use automation tools such as Ansible, Packer, Terraform, or PowerShell is desirable
• Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Information Technology, a similar technical, or equivalent years of experience

• 1 or more associate-level certifications, including but not limited to the following areas:
• Networking
• VMware or AWS
• Cybersecurity

• A combination of 5+ years of experience working in an IT-related field

• Demonstrated experience administrating Windows Server OS, AD Services, vSphere, AWS, Azure, Server Hardware Support or Network/firewall administration
• Understanding of network concepts and Cisco CLI commands is desirable
• Experience with public cloud (AWS, Google, or Azure) networking is also desirable
• Experience adding assets and setting alerts within network and server monitoring tools is desirable

• Willingness to participate in on-call rotations during off-hours and weekends if needed
• Linux experience is a plus
• Some travel will be required
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
