The Cedarville University Department of Art, Design, and Theatre in the School of Arts and Humanities seeks a talented Assistant/Associate Professor of Theatre (Generalist). This is a full-time, tenure-track eligible teaching position. 

This Theatre Generalist faculty position will specialize in one or more of the following areas:

  • Criticism/Theory: Courses include Theatre History 1 and II, Dramaturgy, The Christian in Theatre, Dramatic Literature, and Playwriting
  • Scenic/Lighting/Costume Design: Course include Introduction to Technical Theatre, Introduction to Production Design, Theatre Design Practicum, and Advanced Theatrical Design (designing mainstage scenes, lighting and/or costumes, hair, makeup for three productions each year is included in teaching load)
  • Directing: Courses include Directing I and II and Stage Management (directing one or more mainstage productions per year is included in teaching load)

Additional responsibilities include maintaining academic credentials and discipline-specific research/methodology /pedagogy as well as a working knowledge of biblical texts and appropriate discipline-specific integration techniques, academic advising, advising senior capstone theatre projects, professional development, committee membership, university service, and professional/scholarly activity in the field. Teaching load is twenty-four credit hours, or the equivalent, each academic year of two semesters.

This position is subject to the University's verification of credentials and other information required by law and Cedarville University policies, including the successful completion of a background check. Position Requirements:

  • M.F.A., P.H.D., or equivalent field-related terminal degree; (M.A. considered)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team member
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Documented successful teaching, directing, and/or design experience
  • Demonstrated record of professional experience and achievement
  • Committed to biblical integration in and out of the classroom
  • Qualified applicant must be a born-again Christian
