Position Summary:

As a Data Platforms Administrator, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining data platforms to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security. Your role will involve configuring, administering, and troubleshooting Azure data services, implementing best practices for data storage and processing, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support data-driven initiatives in collaboration with systems administrators.

 

This is a Remote/Work from Home position reporting to the Director of Data Engineering

 

What you will do:

  • Administer, configure, and maintain Azure data services such as Azure SQL database, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Synapse Analytics, Microsoft Fabric, Cosmos DB, Event Hub, etc.
  • Administer, configure, and maintain NoSQL databases such as Couchbase, and Open source relational databases such as MariaDB & MySQL.
  • Provide expert guidance and technical support to ensure the smooth operation of production databases / data platforms hosted on Azure, including promptly troubleshooting performance issues & resolving incidents, and implementing proactive monitoring and alerting solutions. 
  • Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists and data analysts to implement and manage data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and analyzing large volumes of data. 
  • Design & build fault-tolerant data & analytics platforms that can handle large volumes of data and provide high availability and resilience. 
  • Implement, in coordination with SecOps, security measures to protect data stored in Azure, including access control, encryption, and compliance with regulatory requirements such as GDPR, CCPA and HIPAA. 
  • Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery strategies for Azure data services, ensuring data integrity and availability in the event of system failures or disasters. 
  • Optimize data storage and processing costs by implementing cost-effective strategies such as storage tiering, resource scaling, utilization monitoring and data retention in collaboration with Systems Administration team. 
  • Automate routine tasks and workflows using Azure automation tools such as Azure PowerShell, Azure CLI, and Azure Automation. 
  • Provide technical guidance and support to other members of the IT team, including training and documentation on Azure data platforms and technologies. 
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to incidents and service outages outside of regular business hours as needed. 
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in Azure data services, recommending and implementing improvements to enhance performance, scalability, and reliability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate is a plus. 
  • Minimum 5 years of extensive production support experience in administering and managing Azure data services, including Azure SQL database, Azure SQL Data Warehouse, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Synapse Analytics, Microsoft Fabric, Cosmos DB, Event Hub. 
  • At least 2 years of experience supporting & working with NoSQL databases such as Couchbase, MongoDB and Open source relational databases such as MariaDB & MySQL. 
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using tools such as Azure PowerShell, Azure CLI, Terraform, Python. 
  • Strong understanding of data management concepts, including data modeling, ETL processes, data warehousing, data normalization / denormalization and data governance. 
  • Experience with implementing security controls and compliance measures for Azure data services, including encryption, access control, and auditing. 
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve issues related to Azure data platforms. 
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a high-quality results-driven, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment, with a strong commitment to continuous learning and professional development. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter with strong organizational and time management skills, self-directed and able to handle multiple priorities with demanding timeframes.
  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion, make sound decisions, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficient in MS Office, modern communication tools for virtual teams (i.e., MS Teams)

Employees may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time:

100% Remote: Work environment is at home. 

Compensation
