Job Overview:

Must possess mechanical aptitude. Some training or experience is desired. Willingness to learn and be trained as it relates to repair and service work. Must maintain safety, neat appearance and display good customer service skills.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/INSTRUCTIONS:

Basic hand tools and either tool chest or rollaway required. Must embrace the company’s core values of Safety, service, and Integrity. Individuals must maintain a good driving record.

 

Outline of Duties

Unit Disassembly

  • Note and photograph engine and any accessories.
  • Photograph damaged components / incriminating evidence of failure.
  • Ensure that a determination of the proximate cause of failure is made.
  • Note special provisions on units (i.e., tach, shutdowns, etc.)
  • Ensure all tag information is correct on the job card. 
  • Record all disassembly clearances on job card. 

Unit Cleanup and Inspection

  • Tank and pressure wash all cases and components as needed.
  • Sandblast components as needed.
  • Check all threads and oil/air passages.
  • Pressure tests all water jacketed cases.
  • Ensure that NDT is performed on suspected damage by qualified personnel.
  • Ensure all critical dimensions are checked on all cases.
  • Route components in need of repair to proper department.
  • Ensure jobs are always organized on pallets during repair process.
  • Clean bearing assemblies and take them to QC department for inspection and assembly.

Labor and Parts Quotation 

  • Note repair labor to be performed on job card with explanation when repair is not standard.
  • Fill out the replacement parts list with an explanation of the need for replacement when replacement is not standard.
  • Ensure that photos are taken of components in need of non-standard repair or replacement for pictorial report.

Unit Assembly

  • Prime and prepare all cases for assembly.
  • Perform final inspection of all components and ensure all repair labor has been done correctly.
  • Ensure appropriate job card information has been recorded prior to & during assembly.
  • Assemble, torque, measure, lockwire as required.
  • Record all clearances on job card.

Prepare Unit for Shipment

  • Paint unit.
  • Plug and/or cover all openings.
  • Ensure all installation gaskets are with job.
  • Place unit on shipping container.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited school or institution
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in mechanical test and assembly / disassembly or heavy equipment repairs and maintenance

Eligibility Requirements

  • Work overtime, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Work in constant pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, climbing, bending and other physical activities.
  • Be in the shop environment a minimum of 8 hours per day, primarily standing and sitting, as required.
  • Lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Be subjected to extreme heat for extended periods of time.
  • Travel within the US to work at customer locations or other Cooper facilities as needed.
  • Handle heavy parts and moving parts.
  • Work inside and outside, as required.
  • Interpret drawings, prints, drawings, and engineering specifications to perform moderately complex, repetitive disassembly and reassembly tasks of all pressure control equipment.
  • Possess or obtain forklift operator license and certification to operate overhead cranes.
  • Wear PPE or Personal Protective Equipment - Hearing and eye protection (safety equipment) must be used.
  • Operate pneumatic and hydraulic torque tools.
  • Comply with all applicable quality, health, safety, and environmental regulations and maintain good housekeeping in assigned work areas.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

 

Desired Characteristics

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Operations / service center operation applications or minimum 5 years of total relevant operation experience
  • Strong knowledge of existing drilling and production surface wellhead equipment, frac equipment and rental tools
  • Team player
  • Ability to work undirected per engineering specifications and inspect own work for integrity and quality.
  • Ability to perform highly complex troubleshooting and repair of equipment.
  • Ability to setup and run test operations on basic and moderately complex sub-assemblies and final assemblies following engineering drawings, parts specifications, assembly procedures and/or verbal instructions.
  • Ability to perform hydro and nitrogen gas pressure testing and functional testing of product.
  • Knowledgeable in good housekeeping requirements and all safety regulations

  • Ability to read schematics.
