General Statement of Duties

The Risk Manager is responsible, with the cooperation of the CFO and Building & Project Manager, for the insurance programs covering all the entities, personnel and volunteers of the Diocese of Baton Rouge through its property, liability, workers’ compensation and other insurance policies. In collaboration with legal and insurance professionals and consultants, this position reviews proposals, interprets diocesan and civil regulations and policies, and negotiates with brokers. The Risk Manager creates a culture of awareness and communicates this by conducting workshops, loss control visits, and fully participating in the emergency planning for the Diocese and its affiliated institutions.

 

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. 
  • Minimum five years of progressive related experience, in property and casualty insurance with a sound background in safety and risk management, preferably in a non-profit/religious environment.
  • ARM (Associate in Risk Management), or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) designation preferred.
  • Must respect and support the Catholic identity of the Diocese.
  • Must possess a current, valid Louisiana driver’s license and own reliable transportation.

  • Strong professional, organizational, and leadership skills, and ability to maintain strict level of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with others on all levels both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain friendly and cooperative relations with diocesan administration, employees, clergy, and parishes, schools, and other Catholic organizations the diocese supports.  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to use current software being used by the diocese, i.e., Microsoft Office 365, email, online conferencing, webinars and other mass communication tools, and other software used to evaluate and report loss control information.
  • Advanced spreadsheet application skills. 
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage projects and multiple priorities and see projects through to completion.
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays as necessary.
