Job Description

Environmental Health & Safety Manager

 

JOB DIMENSIONS:

 

Job Summary:

Under minimal supervision, establishes, maintains, and reviews all corporate Environmental, Health & Safety standard operating practices and training programs; evaluates and makes recommendations on current and proposed processes to comply with federal, state, and local ordinances, codes, laws, and regulations; manages staff and communicates policies and standards to company representatives; and performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Reports to:

VP Operations.

 

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages, evaluates, and coordinates Hazardous Waste Program;
  • Oversees monthly safety meetings;
  • Maintains Material Safety Data Sheets and Hazardous Material Inventory;
  • Prepares reports and correspondence;
  • Organizes and conducts training programs for employees as required on an ongoing basis; 
  • Performs Job Safety Analysis on employee tasks;
  • Ensures compliance and presents information for reports to federal, state, and local agencies on a scheduled basis; 
  • Conducts monthly facility inspections for compliance with OSHA and environmental standards;
  • Oversees applications for equipment permits;
  • Identifies procedural and equipment deficiencies, making recommendations, and coordinates corrective actions;
  • Trains staff and performs personnel performance evaluations;
  • Attends training as required by compliance agencies;
  • Develops and administers department budget;
  • Fully complies with and enforces company rules, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to ensure safe and effective operations;
  • Regular punctuality, attendance, and absence reporting in conformance with company policies are essential to the successful performance of this position; and 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:

Any combination equivalent of, but not limited to, the following:

 

Experience/Training/Education:

5 – 10 years experience in administering environmental, health, and safety programs, regulations, codes, and laws and their practical application to the industrial process, including some experience in developing and presenting training programs and communications in a manufacturing environment. Training and/or certification in environmental sciences, safety, hazardous materials, risk management, and emergency response practices.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Considerable working knowledge of federal, state, local environmental, health and safety regulations, codes and laws;
  •  Ability to operate various types of sampling equipment;
  • Ability to use personal computer and related software programs proficiently;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, management, and interagency representatives on issues of training, needs and assessment planning;
  • Ability to apply principles of hazardous materials management to industrial operations;
  • Ability to select, train, motivate, develop, and evaluate employees;
  • Ability to organize and structure needs, schedule priorities, and delegate work; 
  • Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers and related departments;
  • Ability to negotiate with vendors in researching equipment specifications and ordering products;
  • Administer consulting contracts;
  • Evaluate accident investigation procedures, emergency management plans, hazardous material management, and workers' compensation trends and analyses. 
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

 

Physical Requirements

Ability to bend, stoop, reach, stretch, lift, and carry materials weighing 50 pounds or less.

 

Special Requirements

  • Appropriate company certification in the operation of a forklift truck;
  • Possession of valid Driver License,
  • Acceptable driving record and;
  • Must enroll in the company Driver Monitoring Program.
