General Description 

We are seeking a motivated and creative Marketing/Communications Intern to join our team. This role is perfect for someone with strong writing skills, a passion for social media, and a desire to make a meaningful impact. As our intern, you will be an essential part of our marketing and communications team, assisting in the management of social media platforms, content creation, and the execution of key communications initiatives.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Social Media Management:
    • Develop and manage a social media content calendar to ensure consistent posting across platforms.
    • Create, curate, and schedule engaging content (e.g., posts, graphics, videos) for social media channels including Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others as needed.
    • Monitor social media engagement and respond to comments and messages in a timely and professional manner.
    • Track and analyze social media metrics to assess the effectiveness of campaigns and identify areas for improvement.
  • Content Creation:
    • Engage with staff, volunteers, and community members to gather stories and insights for newsletters and blog posts.
    • Write compelling and informative copy for newsletters, blog posts, and other communications materials.
    • Assist in the design and development of promotional materials for various initiatives and events.
  • Communications Support:
    • Assist with event planning and managing communications for an internal program aimed at raising awareness about advocacy in early childhood education.
    • Collaborate with the communications team to develop strategies for promoting the program and engaging with target audiences.
    • Support the creation and dissemination of press releases, media advisories, and other public relations materials.

 

 

Essential Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a relevant degree program (e.g., Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, etc.).
  • Availability to work 15-20 hours per week.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Reliable internet access if working remotely.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Experience with social media platforms and content management tools.
  • Comfortable conducting interviews and engaging with diverse groups of people.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Creative, forward-thinking, and proactive in identifying new opportunities for engagement.
  • Passionate about education, community service, and making a positive impact in underrepresented communities.
  • Experience with event planning, graphic design and/or video editing is a plus.

 

Physical, Mental and/or Visual Demands

  • Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time throughout the day.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend and stoop.
  • Must be able to walk extended periods throughout the day monitoring.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.   
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, color, peripheral depth and the ability to adjust focus.
