General Description 

The Deputy Center Director is responsible for overseeing the procurement of operating licenses and supporting the quality management of Head Start (HS) and Early Head Start (EHS) centers. This position ensures that all centers comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including the Head Start Performance Standards, NC Child Day Care Licensing Law, and the standards set by the Guilford County Partnership for Children. The Deputy Center Director works closely with Center Directors to ensure that each center has the resources necessary to provide a high-quality learning environment, achieve accreditation, and maintain or improve their NC Licensing rating.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the procurement of operating licenses for HS/EHS centers, ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, NC Child Day Care Licensing Law, and all relevant local regulations.
  • Assist Center Directors in achieving the highest quality standards, including compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, NC licensing requirements (star-rated), and Guilford County Partnership for Children outcome measures.
  • Collaborate with assigned Center Directors to ensure adequate resources (curriculum, teacher-child interaction, facilities, technology, equipment, and supplies) are available to support a high-quality learning experience.
  • Provide guidance and training to Center Directors to help achieve and maintain NAEYC accreditation and a five-star NC Licensing rating.
  • Conduct regular center visits as determined by the supervisor to monitor compliance with quality and licensing standards.
  • Review and monitor center documentation for accuracy, including child and family services, child outcomes, parent involvement, and staff development.
  •   Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings to foster communication between center staff and administration, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to standards.

 

 

 

Essential Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in early childhood education, Head Start/Early Head Start program administration, or a similar role.
  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, NC Child Day Care Licensing Law, and NAEYC accreditation processes.

Physical, Mental and/or Visual Demands

  • Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time throughout the day.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Must be able to bend and stoop.
  • Must be able to walk extended periods throughout the day monitoring.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.   
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, color, peripheral depth and the ability to adjust focus.
