H2M Architects + Engineers, a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, environmental consulting firm in Melville, NY seeks a Sr. Structural Engineer to join our team. This position provides excellent growth opportunity for a mid-senior level professional to make a career change and gain increased responsibility with the support of a well-established and growing firm.  This position may report to another New York regional office depending on applicant’s interest and qualifications.


We are looking for a Structural Engineer with 10+ years’ experience in a consulting engineering firm.  In this role, you will work with other structural engineers as part of a multi-disciplined design team performing structural engineering work for both public and private sector clients.  In addition, you will manage a team of structural engineers in executing project assignments which will involve performing design load calculations, preparing construction documents and specifications, and coordinating with our architects and MEP engineers.

 

 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Manages and leads a design team in the execution and delivery of structural engineering assignments for building structures and facilities.
  • Develops, train and mentor staff and project engineers.
  • Supervises and oversees the design and preparation of structural engineering plans.
  • Utilizes computer design software such as ETABS, RAM, STAAD PRO, etc.
  • Prepares calculations, charts and graphs, and monitoring work for compliance to applicable codes, and accepted engineering practices for low to mid rise buildings, concrete structures, etc.
  • Provides judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Oversees the development of construction drawings and design specifications for bid.
  • Coordinates with other engineering and architecture disciplines during planning, design and construction administration phases of projects.
  • Performs inspection and analysis of existing structures.
  • Prepares client letters and reports.
  • Develops proposal letters including technical scope and fee.
  • Manages project financial budgets.

Education and Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering.
  • EIT required, PE (NY) highly desirable.
  • Must have 10+ yrs Structural experience managing a wide array of projects, which includes proposal writing  
  • Demonstrated experience managing budget  
  • Prior supervisory exp; experience managing and building a team
  • Knowledge of ETABS, STAAD.Pro, RAM preferred.
  • Familiarity with REVIT a plus.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all disciplines and levels of the firm
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

The salary range for this role is $110,000 - $140,000 annually.
