GENERAL PURPOSE

The purpose of this position will be to oversee a Category Management team for category resets and new item placement. This person will lead a team of associates to maintain the schematics/new product placements for multiple categories, is responsible for inserting new items, removing discontinues items and merchandising the schematics in the most cost-effective manner. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follows established company policies and procedures
  • Oversees and assists the schematics team to achieve category resets, new item placement, and store resets
  • Assists the Sales Director Team in the launch of new products, providing direction in applicable and relatable industry merchandising standards
  • Be present at all resets and work with managers on merchandising standards
  • Confirms pricing accuracy and signage for all products, paying particular attention to ad items
  • Communicates and follows up on new sets and schematics
  • Builds and maintains relationships with store associates, Store Directors and our vendor community
  • Assists with departmental space management; new items, new sets, in and outs, merchandising, etc.
  • Follows a calendar for future projects and manages the schedule of the Schematics Associate team to minimize disruption in the store while optimizing efficiency and speed of resets
  • Assists in planning for holiday sales and seasonal items and sets
  • Completes assigned tasks efficiently and in a timely manner
  • Sets a professional and positive example to others
  • Ensures company standards for safety, sanitation and productivity are maintained
  • Teaches, mentors and educates associates to help them be successful members of the team
  • Ensures that the stores have the items that they need for resets and remodels
  • Ensure department standards are met
  • Promptly addresses and shares associates’ and customers’ concerns and/or grievances with the appropriate person
  • Teaches, mentors, and educates associates to help them be successful members of the team
  • Provides honest, direct, and constant feedback to associates regarding their performance and areas of improvement; assesses associate performance and influences promotion, discipline, etc.
  • Promptly addresses and resolves associates’ concerns and/or grievances
  • Helps contribute to the success of Harmons as a whole

TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS:

A high school diploma or GED required, and some college education are preferred; five years of grocery or related retail merchandising experience preferred; or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

 

  • Must have an expert knowledge of and enjoy working with and handling grocery products
  • Ability to read a store schematic and be attentive to detail
  • Basic math and computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Understanding of non-perishable/perishable product rotation, merchandising and schematic building preferred
  • Must obtain Harmons Forklift Certification
  • Ability to view the changing dynamics of the grocery industry
  • Excellent organization and planning skills
  • Must possess solid communication skills, including verbal and listening skills in order to effectively and efficiently communicate with and manage diverse groups of people
  • Ability to appropriately and professionally handle conflict
  • Must possess the ability to accept constructive review and be accountable for one’s own success as well as the success of your team
  • Required to make logical, significant decisions using general, recognized analytical skills and techniques
  • Must possess integrity, a positive attitude, be mission-driven, and be self-directed with a demonstrated passion for Harmons’ mission and commitment to working collaboratively

Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable store environment with the possibility of frequent exposure to cold, hot, slippery and wet conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to grasp, push, pull, carry, stoop, twist, crouch, and reach; perform tasks requiring repetitive motion and eye, hand and foot coordination; hear and respond to customer inquiries.  Also requires standing, walking and bending throughout the entire work day and the ability to maneuver heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds from location to location.
