GENERAL PURPOSE:

The purpose of this position is to manage, grow, and create excitement in the home, health, and beauty departments. This person will ensure the profitability of the home, health, and beauty department. This person must have working knowledge and be up to date on trends in the HHB industry, including products such as supplements, over-the-counter medication, and vitamins. This person will have a passion for learning and using products that they carry and will be creative with cross merchandising and displays. This person will oversee the Floral Manager in addition to HHB associates and may be responsible for leadership of the store during the Store Director’s absence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follows established departmental and store policies and procedures
  • Ensures the quality and freshness of all products and services provided by the home, health, and beauty department
  • Responsible for maintaining the appropriate product assortment and inventory levels for the home, health, and beauty department
  • Confirms pricing accuracy and signage for all products, paying particular attention to ad items
  • Ensures the store is cleaned daily and meets the company standards for appearance
  • Delivers excellent customer service to all customers
  • Receives, stores, and stocks a wide variety of products for the home, health, and beauty department
  • Manages inventory, out of stocks, and expired products
  • Builds end-cap and other special product merchandising displays
  • Conducts inventory and orders product to meet the needs of the store based on past and projected sales
  • Completes assigned tasks efficiently and in a timely manner
  • Active member of Safety Committee which helps ensure the safety of both customers and associates
  • In the absence of the Store Manager, accepts role as Safety Committee Chair, which is responsible for monthly safety meetings, safety audits, review of accident follow up, investigations, and tracking reports
  • Sets a professional and positive example to others
  • Assists Store Director with the successful operation of the store
  • Acts as manager in charge of the store in the Store Director’s absence
  • Communicates openly and frequently with Store Director and Director of HHB
  • Ensures company standards for safety, sanitation, and productivity are maintained
  • Teaches, mentors, and educates associates to help them be successful members of the team
  • Provides honest, direct, and constant feedback to associates regarding their performance and areas of improvement; assesses associate performance and influences promotion, discipline, etc.
  • Promptly addresses and resolves associates’ concerns and/or grievances
  • Values their associates by conducting reviews and evaluations in a timely manner
  • Assists as needed to ensure the success of the store as a whole

MARGINIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists with closing the store. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities:

A high school diploma or GED required; a college degree is preferred or 5 years of merchandising or other retail experience; previous management or leadership experience preferred; or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Basic math skills to calculate gross, labor, projections, cto
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be creative and artistic to create visually appealing merchandising displays
  • Should be curious about home, health, and beauty trends
  • Understanding of product rotation
  • Must use and enjoy working with home, health, and beauty items
  • Should have a passion for customer service
  • Must obtain Harmons’ Forklift Certification
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures
  • Excellent organization and planning skills
  • Must possess solid communication skills, including verbal and listening skills to communicate with and manage diverse groups of people effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to handle conflict appropriately and professionally
  • Must be confidential
  • Must possess the ability to accept constructive review and be accountable for one’s own success as well as the success of your team
  • Required to make logical, significant decisions using general, recognized analytical skills and techniques

Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable store environment with the possibility of frequent exposure to cold, hot, slippery, and wet conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to grasp, push, pull, carry, stoop, twist, crouch, and reach; perform tasks requiring repetitive motion and eye, hand, and foot coordination; hear and respond to customer inquiries. Also requires standing, walking, and bending throughout the entire workday and the ability to maneuver heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds from location to location.
