SUMMARY

The Concrete Laborer performs tasks involving physical labor on general construction projects, mostly involving concrete work. May operate a variety of hand and power tools. May clean and prepare sites, tie rebar, dig trenches, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris and remove waste materials. May assist other craft workers. Occasional travel to out of the area jobsites during the week may be required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Set up forms, grade stakes, and layout / tie re-bar.
  • Perform general construction labor, including job site clean-up. • Set and strip wall forms and assist in pouring concrete. 
  • Move various construction materials, both by hand and utilizing various material transport mechanisms.
  • Engage in preparation work to ready worksite for carpenters, finishers, etc. to perform defined tasks.
  • Operate motorized equipment including power tools, saws, etc.
  • Monitor processes, materials, and/or surroundings.
  • Perform functions according to company and OSHA safety guidelines.
  • Install post shores per instructions. 
  • Work with the concrete crew on and around concrete forms assisting with concrete pour & finish. 
  • Operate vibrator during concrete pours 
  • Work with buckets and pump truck to place concrete 
  • Clean, inspect and perform routine maintenance of equipment and tools 
  • Load and unload materials, machinery, and tools
  • Clean and prepare sites to eliminate possible hazards
  • Pull concrete with come along, operate truck chutes, operate vibratory screeds, and have knowledge of using a bull float to finish.
  • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications.
  • Able to work thru adverse weather carrying re-bar, running demo saws, and drive form stakes.
  • Produce rough concrete surface, using broom. Mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.
  • Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure surface of concrete, and waterproof or restore surface.

QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

6 months to 1 year experience in concrete forming, pouring, and finishing preferred.  Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work.  Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions. Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, proper and safe use of equipment, materials and supplies used in heavy/highway construction work.  Work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.

Physical Demands

Lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to type, handle, or feel and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
