Director of Regulatory Affairs

 

Job Summary:

The Director of Regulatory Affairs will lead the regulatory compliance efforts for a food manufacturing company operating across multiple sites. This role involves ensuring adherence to regulations set by USDA, FDA, and CFIA agencies. The director will manage a team of 8 and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to maintain product safety and compliance standards. This is a remote role.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement regulatory strategies to ensure compliance with USDA, FDA, and CFIA regulations across all manufacturing sites.
  • Lead and mentor a team of regulatory affairs professionals, providing guidance on regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of regulatory documents, including food product registrations, labeling, and ingredient approvals.
  • Coordinate with internal departments such as Quality Assurance, Research & Development, and Legal to address regulatory issues and ensure alignment with company objectives.
  • Stay updated on changes in food safety regulations and communicate implications to relevant stakeholders.
  • Manage relationships with regulatory agencies, including representing the company during regulatory engagements and meetings.
  • Conduct risk assessments and provide recommendations for product formulations and manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with external consultants, legal counsel, and trade associations to monitor industry trends and anticipate regulatory changes.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to regulatory compliance processes and systems.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of regulatory compliance metrics to senior management.

 

Knowledge of:

  • USDA, FDA, and CFIA regulations pertaining to food manufacturing, labeling, and distribution.

 

Skill In:

  • Effectively engaging with internal and external stakeholders through excellent communication
  • Leadership and team-building, with experience managing direct reports and cross-functional teams.
  • Being detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements.

 

Ability to:

  • Successfully manage regulatory compliance for multi-site operation with a proven track record.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies and conduct regulatory inspections and audits.
  • Develop and execute regulatory strategies aligned with business objectives

 

Proficiency In:

  • Microsoft Office suite and regulatory compliance software tools.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in regulatory affairs within the food industry, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
