Position Summary

The Project Accountant is responsible for project accounting from setup through closeout, including project monitoring, month-end billing and revenue recognition process. They work with project and practice managers and directors, along with other management personnel to ensure appropriate financial and operational performance. The Project Accountant assists with accounting system reporting, process development and administration, A/P approval and processing of sub-consultants, A/R collections, troubleshooting and other tasks and projects as identified.

Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities

Project Billing

  • Reviews project contracts to ensure database is setup properly for invoicing.
  • Obtains client POs for additional work and performs monthly billing recommendations, processing and client submittals.
  • Ensures proper timesheet and expense entries are submitted to the correct project phases.
  • Communicates concisely and timely with clients, upper management and project managers as needed.

Sub-Consultant Processing & Approvals

  • Works collaboratively with project and construction managers to ensure timely receipt of invoices, accurate posting to project phases and payments are made according to terms.
  • Ensures sub-consultants maintain proper insurance POI

Client Troubleshooting

  • Responds to client invoicing disputes and works with clients toward resolution.
  • Assists with internal and external project audits for building owners.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with accounting counterparts at key clients.

Project A/R Collections

  • Monitors project collections and proactively provides reminders and assistance with investigating and troubleshooting delinquencies.
  • May assist risk management with lien release processes.

Required Education, Experience, Licenses & Technical Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required. Relevant years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • 3 years’ relevant experience in accounting, finance, or related field required.
  • Architecture/Engineering/Construction or professional services industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with Deltek Vision accounting software and Concur preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge and ability in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.), preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting functions and processes.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and adapt to change.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership over projects and processes.
  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to effectively modify or adapt to changing project needs or priorities.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced situations while maintaining and emphasizing a high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in this job description.

Physical & Other Requirements

  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
