HealthRight360/Prototypes set the standard for comprehensive, integrated, evidence-based services. To be most effective in assisting in our clients' recovery, Prototypes' substance use disorder (SUD) treatment programs are designed to provide comprehensive, evidence-based treatment services for individuals aged 18 and older. Outpatient and intensive outpatient programs are available as well as services designed specifically for pregnant and parenting mothers, for parents who have an open case with child protective services, and for adults in the criminal or family court systems. All of our staff members are specially trained to assist clients with these unique issues in individual and group service formats.

The SUD counselor works in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure best possible treatment outcomes for clients and provide treatment in accordance with HealthRIGHT 360’s philosophy, goals, policies, mission and vision. The SUD counselor maintains a caseload and provides program coverage in outpatient and field-based settings (across Los Angeles area) to under-served and vulnerable populations impacted by criminal justice, homelessness and co-occuring mental health disorders. The ideal candidate has strong understanding of clients with substance use disorders and histories of addiction. The candidate has excellent clinical documentation skills and excels working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The services are included, but not limited to intake and assessment, individual and group counseling, psycho-education, relapse prevention, harm reduction, crisis intervention, case management and timely submission of program related documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial assessment and intake evaluation for the formulation of treatment plan; provide group, family and individual counseling.
  • Provide case management services (e.g. housing, employment, finances management, court reports, DCFS communication).
  • Identify and implement relapse prevention or harm reduction interventions when indicated.
  • Work as part of the treatment team in collaboration with the prescribing provides, therapist and other team members.
  • Participate in team meetings to provide information and make recommendations for treatment, discharge planning, and client management.
  • Document client's progress and reviews treatment plans routinely.
  • Ensure that all documentation is of high quality and is completed within assigned deadlines.
  • Continue professional development through participation in continuing education, in-service training and professional workshops to maintain current knowledge and broaden expertise.
  • Preforms other duties as assigned.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Registration or Certification as Substance Abuse Counselor from an approved/accredited California agency.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in the substance abuse treatment field.
  • Experience in culturally diverse substance abuse populations with co-occurring mental health diagnosis or criminal charges are desired.
  • Excellent writing and computer skills.
  • Experience with motivational interviewing and CBT.
  • Must be open to a flexible work schedule including evening and/or weekends.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively with people in a constructive manner within a community-based treatment setting.
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong boundaries.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required within first 90 days of employment.
  • Valid Drives' license, registration and insurance required.
  • Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
