Job Overview

This is a union position.

Prototypes Women's Center-Oxnard provides detoxification and residential substance abuse treatment to women. Our program is unique in that women can bring their children into Treatment with them. Oxnard is licensed for 56 women and 28 children. Our Treatment Team works closely with community partners such as Ventura County Behavioral Health, Local Hospitals, Child Family services (CFS), VC Courts, Probation and Parole. Our clients are offered the following services; Individual SUD counseling, Group Counseling, Therapy, Family Therapy, Case Management, Discharge and Transition Planning.  

The Therapist is a licensed or registered mental health professional who is responsible for providing individual, family, and group mental health services to clients in assigned programs. In addition, the Therapist is responsible for group facilitation and participation in Utilization Reviews for Managed Care clients, and ensuring that the programming being provided to the clients is Evidence Based and Trauma Informed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, family and group therapy and education as assigned.
  • Meet with clients entering Prototypes for assessment and diagnosis.
  • Complete all progress notes and other clinical documentation at the time of service.
  • Develop mental health services that meet the needs of the clients, which may include adjunct services, and provide field-based services when needed.
  • Provide outreach services to families.
  • Responsible for all treatment services being provided in an ethical and legal manner.
  • Work as part of treatment team in collaboration with the psychiatrist, primary drug and alcohol counselors, case manager and other team members.
  • Assist in crisis and symptom management within assigned programs.
  • Provide services as defined by treatment model and treatment team to clients including providing services where the consumer lives, assisting with housing, benefits, employment, education, transportation.
  • Provide case management services as needed.
  • Assist Substance Abuse Counselors in the development of client case plans and in providing comprehensive assessments and evaluations of service needs.
  • Work closely with Substance Abuse Counselors and other professionals to coordinate and monitor client issues.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Current Degree: MA, MSW or Ph.D./Psy.D. from a regionally accredited graduate program in the field of psychology or counseling psychology and up to two years of clinical experience in delivering mental health services to adults and/or children. 
  • LMFT, LCSW or Licensed Psychologist or Registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences as an AMFT, ACSW, APCC, with experience managing teams in comparable size agencies with increasing areas of responsibilities.

  • Knowledge of and experience with providing culturally competent services.
  • Knowledge of and experience with providing trauma informed services.
  • Knowledge or familiarity with private pay and private insurance-based contracts.
  • Knowledge of Addiction and Women’s Issues.
  • Strong clinical skills with a strengths based focus and a solid background in behavioral health services, including both substance use and mental health disorders.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices.
  • Strong computer skills, including Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Valid CA driver’s license and current automobile insurance required.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
