This is a union position.

 

Women age 18 and above with severe substance use disorders are able to enter residential treatment with their children under the age of 10 ½. In addition to treatment of severe substance use disorder, the residential program is able to serve the following specialty populations: pregnant and postpartum women, women with histories of trauma and/or domestic violence, women with co-occurring mental health disorders, women with history of traumatic brain injury, women with open DCFS cases, and women with criminal justice involvement.

This is a part time position, union eligible, and grant funded. The Sexual and Reproductive Health Specialist is a registered/certified substance use disorder professional who maintains registration/certification from an approved/accredited California agency. The Sexual and Reproductive Health Specialist is responsible for delivering services to clients and providing individualized sexual reproductive health services. The Sexual and Reproductive Health Specialist works in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure best possible treatment outcome for the client and provide treatment in accordance with HealthRIGHT 360’s philosophy, goals, policies, mission, and vision. The Sexual and Reproductive Health Specialist may provide treatment utilizing different modalities including individual and/or group. Services may be provided in outpatient office, residential treatment, or the field, based on client and program need.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Interact with pregnant or parenting women (PPW) in treatment at the frequent and regular intervals to discuss integration and education of sexual and reproductive health with their substance use treatment needs. 
  • The SRH Specialist will provide PPW patients with a basic overview of sexual and reproductive health, explore the patient’s (and/or partner’s) desire to become pregnant within the next year, and address issues related to SUD and how that relates to preparing for pregnancy, pregnancy, and the postpartum period. 
  • The SRH Specialist will use motivational interviewing techniques to engage and encourage parents to become active participants in their sexual and reproductive health, to understand the importance of SUD treatment and the intersection of sexual and reproductive health needs and SUD treatment and facilitate behavioral change. 
  • Providing direct SRH education to patients by using motivational interviewing techniques to establish SRH services simultaneously with the individual's SUD treatment.  
  • Establishes relevant referral networks for family planning and prenatal care. 
  • Act as a liaison between PPW contracted treatment providers and external clinics (e.g., Department of Health Services (DHS) MAMA’s Neighborhood), ensuring that once written consent is obtained, health clinics are informed of the admission status of the individual including location of treatment services and any treatment concerns or issues. 
  • Assist individuals in navigating and linking to physical and mental health and social service systems of care to access needed services.
  • Assists clients with intake, assessment, and health questionnaire.
  • Helps lead the client through the treatment plan and delivers individual and group substance use disorder services.
  • Monitors client's progress toward achieving treatment plan goals and provides treatment plan input. 
  • Utilizes trauma informed care while applying motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and evidence-based practices.
  • Delivers residential and intensive outpatient service clients with a minimum of 1 individual session per week. Delivers outpatient clients a minimum of 1 session every two weeks. 
  • Seeks clinical consultation throughout the treatment episode and when encountering new and/or high risk clinical circumstance. 
  • Works collaboratively with other members of the treatment team including the Case Manager, Clinical Therapist, Medical, and Psychiatrist to ensure appropriate SRH referrals take place.
  • Maintains frequent communication with the treatment team and engages in regular consults, clinical team, case conferences, and plan development meetings.
  • Delivers services in outpatient, residential, or field depending on assignments and client need.
  • Responsible for treatment oversight of the clients on their caseload.
  • Meets expected client care hours (productivity expectation is 12.5 client care hours per week). 

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education Requirements:

  • Registration/Certification as Substance Abuse Counselor from an approved/accredited California agency.

Experience:

  • Preferably a minimum of two years’ experience in the human service field and demonstrated expertise in sexual and reproductive health, substance abuse treatment, relapse prevention, and recovery. 
  • Experience working with clients experiencing acute withdrawal from substances.
  • Knowledge of and experience with providing trauma informed services.
  • Experience delivering evidence-based practices.
