Prototypes, a program of HealthRIGHT 360’s residential substance use disorder (SUD) program is a program contracted with Department of Public Health’s (DPH) Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) program for residential drug Medi-Cal (DMC) services for up to 99 adult men and women: 33 that are for men who are judicially involved, 33 for men, and 33 for women. The residential DMC program will employ 100 people and works closely with the other BHC programs to provide a continuum of services for low income/Medi-Cal population. The program is located on the campus of Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital in the Willowbrook area of South Los Angeles and will serve all LA County residents.

The Addiction Medicine Physician will work collaboratively with the healthcare team which includes medical assistants, primary care, mental health and psychiatric providers, patient care coordinators, and registered nurses to provide patients with comprehensive quality healthcare that addresses both biomedical and psychosocial needs. The core responsibilities include a high degree of interpersonal competence with both staff and patients and evidence- based approaches to routine psychiatric and addiction care, medication management, chronic care support and medication assisted therapy for treatment of substance use disorders. Participates in Quality Improvement activities, and may contribute to the practice and program development. Patient population will include clients in residential treatment for substance use disorders at MLK BHC.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Oversight and delivery of care for patients suffering from substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatry disease, other duties include.
  • Collect a comprehensive history on all continuity patients.
  • Perform ongoing assessment of patients suffering from substance use disorders and co-occuring psychiatry disease.
  • Providers will be expected to initiate and oversee curative medical treatment for patients with uncomplicated HCV under the guidance of the associate medical director.
  • Utilize all the above information in formulating and documenting health care plans which include treatment, health maintenance, education, counseling, and follow-up.
  • Provide Medication Assisted Treatment services for patients with substance use disorders by itself or in combination with medical psychiatric services if necessary.
  • Foster collaboration and client referrals between Substance Abuse Treatment Services. K. Supports the care team in the psychiatric treatment of the patient
  • Maintains open communication with the Associate Medical Director/Medical Director and BH Program Directors concerning needs and seeks consultation when needed.
  • Supports site medical staff to triage client’s medical concerns collaborating/coordinating with community medical partners. 

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring that all treatment service plans and activities are executed in keeping with the organization’s values, mission, vision and strategy.
  • In collaboration with management and program leadership, responsible for ensuring compliance with all programmatic or project contractual requirements.

Direct Service Responsibilities: 

  • Direct Service as necessary and within scope of practice, which may include crisis intervention, assessments, individual services, group services, case conferences, and treatment plans as assigned by the Associate Medical Director/Medical Director.
