Job Summary

Under the direction of the Head of Product Management, the Product Category Manager is responsible for developing strategic direction for the product category; leading new product development; and providing product optimization for their product group. Providing leadership and development of their team and supporting resources in a fast-paced environment to drive full product lifecycle management. Direct customer and marketplace exposure will be essential to ensure effective management of the product category.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Manage a portfolio of products within a category to meet the needs of multiple markets. Manage the life cycle and commercial viability of current offering while seeking opportunities for line extensions and new innovations to meet market needs and grow revenue.
  • Research and define strategic product opportunities within a given category. Use analysis to create and articulate long term product roadmap.
  • Work closely with sales teams, current and potential customers, as well as the concept team to innovate new product solutions for the market. Regular field visits are required to analyze current market activities and challenges - with intentions of delivering differentiated solutions to increase market share.
  • Through market analysis, technical aptitude, and abilities to find and utilize trend, customer, market, and financial information, lead new product idea generation and development. Following established C6 (APQP) processes, substantiate profitable new product opportunities through sound business cases and lead the development team in execution.
  • Communicate customer requirements and needs for new product development to design engineering and prioritize all new product development activities to maximize sales growth.
  • Effectively launch new products to the internal and external sales teams (USA, MX, and Global), general market and automotive sales channels, and key influencers in the market. Work closely with the marketing communications team to ensure deliverables further the company's brand equity and are created for maximum impact and results.
  • Will be the lead person for product content development for branding and marketing deliverables. Assure complete and accurate data in all data systems.
  • Establish market-based pricing and program strategies. Review costs, margins, and market pricing to optimize corporate margin targets.
  • Ensure all markets are considered in developing new product opportunities.
  • Develop and deliver product training to internal teams and customers.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for applications, product usage, relevant codes and standards and the products themselves. Interface with other departments, global initiatives, and marketing resources to represent products and market needs.

 

Qualifications (skills, knowledge, experience)

  • Bachelor's degree required, in Marketing or Engineering preferred.
  • 10+ years' experience in related marketing, sales, or engineering field
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Experience initiating and managing projects.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Domestic travel required.
  • Must have valid driver's license, acceptable driving record and adequate insurance.
