Position Overview

As Educational Coordinator, you’ll be responsible for the overall planning and execution of an after-school program for children living in homeless shelters and low income permanent housing.  You’ll manage and direct a comprehensive program of afterschool development including assessment; linkage to health, educational, and recreational programs; and other services in order to assist families with their children.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and implementing age-appropriate curriculum for afterschool and summer program activities and developing a weekly and annual calendar of events for the department.

  • Conducting outreach, enrollment, and interviews with families within HELP USA’s transitional and permanent housing sites in East New York as well as throughout the East New York community.

  • Supervising on-site afterschool activities and providing homework ad tutorial assistance.

  • Monitoring and managing afterschool staff and volunteers and conducting regular staff supervision.

  • Developing and nurturing community relationships to facilitate free and inexpensive resources and utilizing these resources in program implementation, as well as encouraging child and family use of such resources.

  • Overseeing the purchase of necessary food supplies and classroom equipment

  • Monitoring enrollment and utilization rates and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or Associate’s degree plus 7 years of experience in educational management.

  • Knowledge of and experience with school-age children.

  • Knowledge of recreational/community resources.

  • Valid US driver’s license.

  • Computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.
