Under the general supervision of the Branding, Advertising & Retail Partnerships Manager, the Retail Merchandising Specialist provides merchandising support to Texaco’s network of convenience stores.  Desired competencies include: Proven retail merchandising skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.  Ideal candidate must be able to establish priorities under tight deadlines and have a proven track record as a motivated, self-starter who can work on multiple projects and priorities within a fast-paced environment. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Merchandising & Pricebook:

  1. Setup new vendors through an internal procurement process and set pricing on all new products in the PDI back-office system.
  2. Update vendor price files in Pricebook and schedule and execute necessary retail price changes.
  3. Troubleshoot scan errors in Pricebook with PDI and Station Managers.
  4. Assist with planograms and in-store layouts for company owned and operated convenience stores, and external network as needed (CORO/RORO support). Participate in all store resets.
  5. Conduct site visits to stations across the network to ensure consistent planogram execution and promotional offerings.
  6. Order c-store merchandising displays and supplies as needed to support in-store merchandising.
  7. Create exit strategies for products that must cycle out of stores.

 

Network Profitability:

  1. Research and identify new product offerings to grow sales in the c-stores.
  2. Support profitability in non-fuel sales by meeting category margins.
  3. Conduct competitive shops to monitor industry performance, margins, and trends.
  4. Work closely with Station Managers and Retail Ops to improve the ordering process and keep stations stocked to improve sales.
  5. Monitor audit results and adjust cost categories as needed to upkeep margins.
  6. Assist the CORO and RORO retailers with in-store merchandising planning, sourcing, and planogram execution.
  7. Collaborate with the Marketing team to create and implement monthly c-store promotions to draw customers into the backcourt from the forecourt, including developing site-specific offerings for the network.

 

Analysis:

  1. Track and measure c-store promotional sales performance. Provide promotional recap to the Branding, Advertising, & Retail Partnerships Manager and Retail Team.
  2. Gather historical sales data assist in planogram resets with retail partners.
  3. Analyze category performance and strategize opportunities for growth.

 

In-Store Marketing Support:

  1. Create and distribute all c-store promotional sales materials, including art files and print files using existing templates.
  2. Work with Digital Screen vendor and external Graphics Vendor to create sales signage and push out updated digital signs to participating stations each month.

 

MTO & Ama Backcourt Growth:

  1. Assist the Branding, Advertising, and Retail Partnerships Manager in developing an expansion plan for the Ama backcourt brand in Hawai`i.
  2. Support the expansion of the Made-to-Order (MTO) category through menu refinement and development, along with improving supply chain reliability.
  3. Develop instructional recipe guides to improve consistency across the network, and train station staff on execution. 

 

Relationships:

  1. Strengthen relationships with vendors and identify new partnership opportunities while sourcing products for the network.
  2. Seek out product rebate programs and maximize programming to lower costs for the business and consumers. Track time-bound payments for accuracy.
  3. Monitor out-of-stocks and work with vendors to address supply-chain issues, including identifying suitable substitutions.
  4. Develop, plan, and execute an annual vendor appreciation hosting event for our valued partners.

 

OTHER DUTIES:

  1. Other tasks and duties as assigned, including some marketing support.
  2. Establish new profit-driving and cost-savings initiatives whenever possible.
  3. Support the extended retail network with merchandising expertise as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or three to five years of retail sales and/or merchandising experience in a similar field/industry.

Desirable Education, Experience, Skills

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing or related field
  2. Experience with back-office systems like PDI
  3. Experience buying for retail chain(s)
  4. Experience developing and/or executing planograms

  2. Pass background check including periodic job-related physical abilities testing as required.
  3. This is a safety sensitive position and random drug testing is required.
  4. Available to work after normal hours, weekends and holidays.
  5. Valid driver’s license with clean abstract.
  6. Willingness to devote the time as needed to meet packet and task deadlines. Willingness to maintain or increase skills.
  7.      Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within sixty days of hire.
  8.      This is not a remote or hybrid position.  Position requires in-person attendance.

 

PAY AND BENEFITS:

Island Energy Services offers a competitive salary that commensurate with qualifications and experience.   The hiring salary range for this position is $55,000 to $70,000.  IES also offers a generous benefits package to include comprehensive health and welfare benefits, vacation, sick leave, 401k plus employer matching, supplemental voluntary insurance options, etc.

Employment is contingent upon successfully passing an employee reference check, drug test, criminal background check and a five-year motor vehicle history check.  This is a non-exempt position under FLSA regulations.
