Summary/Purpose

Responsible for supervising the maintenance of plant equipment, physical structures, plumbing, electrical systems, cleaning, and normal building maintenance.  This position includes the responsibility for the department’s performance with respect to safety, quality, delivery and cost.

 

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Guide associates in proper troubleshooting techniques, repair methods, and quality of work to ensure production equipment and facilities are maintained to acceptable standards.
  • Maintain a training plan for associates utilizing both on the job training and the OTC Amatol system of all skill levels to continuously improve response to production machine downtime.
  • Effectively plan projects, improvements, modifications and rebuilds to be completed with minimal overtime and reasonable material costs.
  • Work with contractors to achieve successful machine installations, building expansions, facilities, and central systems modifications within the budget and schedule provided.
  • Continually monitor and expand the effectiveness of the preventative maintenance system.
  • Ensure TPM system is fully implemented and maintained.
  • Provide weekly trackers and monthly reports containing overall machine uptime, scheduled maintenance percentage, past due PMs, machines with downtime over one hour, backlog hours, failure severity rate, and response time.
  • A performance year over year Pareto to analyze performance and improve effectiveness.  Reports should be visible to Maintenance Associates and reported to Management.
  • Maintain the FMDS board insuring it is kept up to date.
  • Work with plant EHS Analyst to monitor all machines and facilities equipment to ensure that OSHA requirements are maintained.  Assist in risk assessments.
  • Monitor associates’ daily work duties to confirm environmentally friendly and safe work is being performed at all times.
  • Being receptive to call in work hours – day, night, and weekends and insure plant support associates are contacted to come in and cover downtime and emergency issues.
  • Willing to carry a company mobile phone at all times. 
  • Directs, coordinates, and supervises the day-to-day work assignments of associates.
  • Maintains time and attendance records, manpower, etc. for Maintenance.
  • Direct and coordinate the day-to-day work assignments of Maintenance.
  • Lead 8-step problem solving.
  • Manage machine critical spare parts.
  • Manage Plant maintenance budget.
  • Lead activities to reduce maintenance cost.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position is responsible for supervising a department of hourly maintenance associates in accordance with policies and procedures.

 

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Individual should be a self-starter with a high degree of initiative and personal responsibility and attention to detail.
  • Must be able to effectively and efficiently plan labor and material to execute projects and/or repair work.
  • Should have good computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.  Must demonstrate the ability to learn the TMS maintenance management software.
  • Should have good analytical ability.
  • Should have either mechanical or electrical experience in both repair and installation of equipment and a good knowledge of equipment. 
  • Able to resolve issues or conflicts between associates effectively.
  • Able to lead and direct in a team environment to achieve maximum efficiency.   

Education and Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.  Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree in a relevant field is preferred.
  • 8+ years’ experience in a maintenance role is required

  • Work is performed in a normal manufacturing area. 
  • Must be able to stand up for 8 hours.
  • This position has an exposure to moderate noise levels, moving mechanical parts, electrical power distribution and controls, compressed air systems, hydraulic systems, steam distribution and generation, water, various types of lubricants, chemical and wash baths, extreme heat, mechanical machine operation, etc.
  • Will be regularly required to climb, stand, sit, and reach with hands, fingers, and arms. 
  • Occasional stooping, kneeling, and crouching are required.
  • This position requires regular lifting of work up to 40 pounds, and push or pulling work up to 125 pounds with proper equipment.
