BASIC PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION

We are looking for a proactive and experienced Assistant Safety Manager to support our safety initiatives across all KTC locations. The ideal candidate will assist in developing, implementing, and managing safety policies and programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while promoting a culture of safety within the organization. The Assistant Safety Manager should have a strong background in occupational health and safety, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to fostering a culture of safety within the organization.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:  This position does the following in accordance with all applicable Federal, State and local laws / regulations and the Company’s policies, procedures and guidelines:

  • Assist in developing and implementing safety policies, procedures, and programs that align with regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • Work collaboratively with Human Resource Managers, Safety Specialists, Division Managers, and other personnel to address safety matters effectively across all locations.
  • Conduct risk assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure timely implementation of corrective actions.
  • Help manage occupational health and safety programs, including ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and emergency response planning.
  • Support the development and delivery of training programs at all levels to enhance employee understanding and commitment to safety practices.
  • Assist in creating and evaluating educational materials, including classroom instruction and recorded training, to engage employees in safety initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, regulatory agencies, industry groups, and other stakeholders to support safety objectives.
  • Monitor safety performance metrics and prepare detailed reports for senior management to guide decision-making.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes to drive continuous improvement in safety practices.
  • Provide oversight for incident investigations, ensuring thorough reporting and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate records related to safety, including injury and illness logs for compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Assist in developing actionable plans for safety activities, ensuring follow-up and reporting on progress to management.
  • Travel to various company locations to conduct regular safety audits, ensuring closure of identified findings.
  • Support and coach Safety Specialists, promoting effective safety practices and employee engagement.
  • Evaluate and actively participate in KTC safety committees to foster a collaborative safety culture.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety or a related field is required
  • MBA or Master’s degree in Safety or related field preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years in safety, Emergency Management, or Loss Prevention/Security, with a strong background in incident management.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification preferred.
  • Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CIH) is a plus.
  • Proven experience leading a distributed safety team in a fast-paced industrial environment, managing safety responsibilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with internal partners and executive leadership.
  • Strong relationship-building abilities with internal and external partners, including emergency agencies and regulatory authorities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, delivering high-quality, data-driven initiatives on time.
  • Flexible and capable of thriving in a fast-paced environment, with a willingness to learn and implement new technologies.
  • Experience with Smartsheet, Microsoft Office, Google platforms, and other workspace software.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Typical office environment. Office equipment including computer, copier, phone, printer.
