At the West Valley Housing Assistance Center, we provide emergency housing and support to families and individuals experiencing homelessness. As a Cook, you will play a vital role in preparing nutritious meals for shelter residents, maintaining food safety standards, and contributing to a positive kitchen environment.

Hourly Pay Rate: $18+ (depending on years of experience)
Location: Surprise, AZ
Schedule: Monday - Friday; 10am - 6:30pm

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED
• 1 - 2 years of similar experience preferred

Responsibilities:

• Prepare nutritious meals and snacks for clients and staff as per program requirements.
• Transport food and cater for agency functions as needed.
• Supervise kitchen operations, ensuring compliance with licensing standards.
• Follow established menus approved by a nutritionist and accommodate special dietary needs.
• Manage grocery shopping within program budget. Participate in cook meetings and other team gatherings.
• Formulate dietary planning and preparation, including special dietary needs of clients.
• Oversee the Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) responsibilities.
• Purchase (if applicable) and load/unload supplies; must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.

Compliance Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Clean 39-month driving record
• Current auto liability insurance
• Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation
• Must pass pre-employment drug test
• Must be able to obtain Class One Fingerprint Clearance Card upon hire (if there are any uncertainties about obtaining this card, applicants are encouraged to complete the appeal process prior to applying, as an invalid card will result in termination of employment)
