A New Leaf is looking for a compassionate and motivated Career Advisor to join our Incarcerated Veterans Transition Program. This role focuses on providing career counseling and support to veterans transitioning from incarceration back into the community. The ideal candidate will have experience in career counseling, a strong understanding of the challenges faced by veterans, and a commitment to helping individuals achieve their employment goals. Hourly Pay Rate: $22.00

Schedule: Monday – Friday; 7am - 4pm

Location: Phoenix, AZ

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High School or GED Required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Business Administration, or a related field, preferred.
  • Relevant experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis.

Experience:

  • One (1) year experience in employment and training programs, case management and/or career development activities or social service programs relative to special populations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interview individuals to determine service options and barriers to obtaining employment.
  • Conduct employment readiness assessments to determine interests, education, and experience to assist with the creation of an individual employment plan (IEP).
  • Conduct financial wellness assessments to identify plan for economic stability.
  • Provide case management services and document participant communication and activities in participant file and database, meeting all required deadlines.
  • Meet regularly with participants as needed (minimum amounts vary by location and program) to assess progress and ensure the participant is actively engaged in both the employment plan and the financial wellness plan.
  • Provide job leads to participants as needed and ensure they are prepared by providing education on job search techniques, hiring processes, and current labor market information.
  • Develop and maintain employer relationships, ensuring information is documented in any required databases.
  • Assist participants with accessing community resources through referrals when appropriate; including, providing support services such as bus passes when eligible or directing to their assigned case manager when housed within A New Leaf.
  • Assist participants with developing resumes, cover letters, and completing applications, including, technology driven job search tools and platforms.
  • Provide on-going coaching to participants on workshops, training, education, and employment activities.
  • Conduct mock interviews for participants requiring interview practice and provide constructive feedback.

  • Must be able to pass various background checks
  • Must pass pre-employment drug test
  • Class One Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Valid Driver’s License with reliable transportation
  • Current Auto Liability Insurance
  • CLEAN 39 Month Motor Vehicle Record
  • Must Be at Least 21 Years of Age
