Politics Reporter
The Richmond Times-Dispatch is seeking an aggressive, versatile, and enterprising reporter to join our politics and government team. Richmond, Virginia is the seat of state government in a vibrant region of more than 1.1 million residents.
The ideal candidate will join a team that covers the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, the state legislature, our congressional delegation and state agencies.
As a member of The Times-Dispatch politics and government team you will develop and be responsible for covering multiple sub beats under the state government umbrella. You will take part in our coverage of high-profile congressional campaigns and Virginia’s role in the presidential contest, as well as legislative campaigns and General Assembly sessions.
We are looking for an open-minded team player who will report without fear or favor. The ideal candidate will be a journalist who can quickly turn around breaking news, and who also can write explanatory, people-centered enterprise stories that explain why government policies matter to our readers.
We are looking for a candidate who can write with clarity and perspective, who is comfortable with making freedom of information requests and who will be adept at both taking and appearing in explanatory videos to complement stories. Experience with social media and SEO analytics a plus.
