SUMMARY

 

The Research & Development (R&D) Surface Treatment Engineer will focus on developing competencies within LISI Aerospace US R&D team regarding all aspects of surface treatment related to aerospace fasteners. This includes the formulation, evaluation and selection of plating and coating products, and surface preparation used or suitable for our products. The R&D Surface Treatment Engineer is also responsible for the technical management of LISI’s HI-KOTE™ product line, and for establishing surface treatment process requirements that will provide the most economical product manufacturing while assuring the finished product meets all end user requirements for the products in development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for all actions related to evaluation, selection, specification and validation of new products in coordination with LISI Aerospace or external laboratories.
    • This includes coating evaluation studies (health and safety analysis, regulatory compliance), physical, environmental and mechanical testing (Chemical analysis, static or dynamic tests, embrittlement, friction evaluations, electrical properties, adhesion), environmental testing (Temperature, corrosion, fluid resistance).
  • Responsible for project management and actions related to research, evaluation, selection, specification and technical validation of surface related processes.
    • This includes surface preparation, plating and coating processes selection and specification for prototypes and products in development
    • Manage related relationships and communication with customer(s)
  • Responsible for the management of the HI-KOTE™ product line, including
    • the maintenance and update of related technical specification (internal specifications and in collaboration with industry group and/or OEMs for external documents)
    • the qualification and audit of LISI AEROSPACE’s licensees for the application of this product line
  • Provide support for process control and process improvement initiatives conducted in Industrialization and/or Manufacturing phases of projects
  • Perform efficient technological surveillance; identify new and advanced surface treatment solutions that would allow the best technical or economic performance.
  • Identify and develop network of Customers, Suppliers, Specialized organizations, Associations and academic institutions involved in surface technologies, worldwide and in the USA in particular.
  • Participate in the development of company products, surface treatment standards and technical specifications and other related documents.
  • Develops generic test methods and test plans for surface treatment and processes evaluations / validations in coordination with other LISI AEROSPACE entities so as to build common procedures and data bases.
  • Define and develop a dedicated product validation test plan in coordination with product design engineers to assess mechanical, physical and functional performance of new products for validation of design and manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure data analysis, results, and conclusions are recorded in documented test reports.
  • Participate in the development of R&D Lab, selection, acquisition, installation, maintenance and operation of R&D Lab equipment and software.
  • Develops R&D training materials and conducts necessary training of R&D staff.
  • Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures.
  • Responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times.
  • Required to bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management’s attention immediately.
  • Continually seeks opportunities to improve our ISO 14001 standards and HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting our results.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related fields; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in Aerospace,Aircraft or Fasteners Coatings, required.
  • Working knowledge of Metallurgy
  • Manufacturing process knowledge related to metal finishing processes such as sand blasting, chemical preparation, plating, painting, and lubrication
  • Experience in Project management preferred
  • Working knowledge of relevant engineering applications.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.  The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

 

Mathematical Skills                                                  

Working knowledge of statistics and advance levels of calculus/differentials equations. Data analysis including Design of Experiments

 

Computer Skills                                            

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have strong knowledge of Internet software; Spreadsheet, Presentation, ProjectPlanning and Word Processing software.

 

Reasoning Ability
