GROUNDS MANAGER | JOB DESCRIPTION 

 

SUMMARY 

At Magnolia, the Grounds Manager is responsible for monitoring and managing the care and maintenance of the gardens, grounds, and landscapes of all designated Magnolia properties. This position works from various locations in and nearby the Waco, TX area. It reports to the Senior Manager of Grounds and has supervisory responsibilities.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Lead, manage, and oversee entire Grounds team to meet goals and expectations at all properties* 
  • Oversee the coaching of staff on routine garden care and landscape maintenance and collaborate with the Garden Design Senior Specialist on employee training 
  • Instruct staff in executing maintenance tasks including the upkeep of Magnolia grounds, sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, amenities, and building exteriors 
  • Manage gardens, grounds, and landscapes by walking all assigned sites weekly and creating notes for maintenance teams to perform on a daily or weekly basis* 
  • Create, execute, and oversee a preventative maintenance program for all grounds and garden responsibilities, tools, and equipment, ensuring their optimal operation
  • Assign tasks to the team, monitor their progress, and provide feedback as needed* 
  • Collaborate with team members to assess plant and flower requirements and place orders proactively
  • Organize and lead regular weekly and/or monthly meetings with the team to foster communication and share updates 
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Senior Manager of Grounds, providing updates on team progress regarding daily tasks and projects, and noting any needed assistance 
  • Monitor and schedule irrigation system(s) for all properties, adjusting based on weather and seasonality* 
  • Partner with the Senior Manager of Grounds and Garden to manage contractors and vendors for team projects and services 
  • Plan and oversee the preparation of the grounds for various events, manage specialized grounds assignments, and coordinate overall property organization, including the relocation of food trucks 
  • Track departmental expenses against the budget, regularly updating to the Senior Manager of Grounds and Garden on progress, and recommend strategies to stay within budget 
  • Ensure invoices and bills are processed with appropriate approvals and/or expense coding, collaborating with the Accounting team as needed* 
  • Partner and maintain relationships with cross-functional teams, ensuring there are successful and collaborative lines of communication at all times to meet company expectations 
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and ensure compliance among team members 
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

*Metrics evaluated on Performance Review

  • Hard skills: Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite preferred. Knowledge of when to plant or start seeds and plugs for various growing seasons required. 

 

ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required 
  • 1-3 years of management experience and/or 5+ years of related work experience or a combination preferred   
  • Valid Texas driver's license required   
  • Must be available to work weekends, nights, special events, and holidays as business needs require 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works outside and is frequently exposed to all weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
